Personally I didn't find this class as easy as everyone else says it is. Prof Ramsey is a great professor, but I found a lot of the content to be challenging (especially some exam problems). It's definitely a different way of thinking compared to calculus, and I struggled with it. So don't go into the class expecting it to be an easy A or whatever

Ramsey was great. In terms of workload, this class had hardly any. We had weekly homework assignments and weekly quizzes, both not taking much time at all as homework had around 5 required problems per week and quizzes were 20 minutes (and online). He is a very nice professor who explains Discrete Math in a way that makes sense--he uses a lot of analogies and examples to kind of "dumb it down." Not to mention his tests are extremely reasonable, and I would say easier compared to other professors teaching this class. His grading scheme is also really favorable, as he allows you to drop one midterm score. He also allowed one extra credit point on a midterm if you completed a mid-quarter survey (his midterms are out of 20 points, so it ends up being a 5% boost to one exam). The content can be confusing, but Ramsey is a really great lecturer and I'd recommend him to anyone.

Prof. Ramsey is one of the best professors I've had so far at UCLA. The class workload was very light with weekly quizzes (super short) and homework (3-5 questions). Mid-terms and finals tested whether you understood concepts but they weren't difficult if you knew the material. If you can, I would highly recommend that you take this class with him.

One of my best math experiences at UCLA, Professor Ramsey had very engaging lectures that made the concepts quite clear. He made the concepts interesting to learn, and the lectures wouldn't feel long or tedious at all. The homework for each week was very light, with only about 5 required problems due that would take about an hour to finish. The midterms were average, but had many spots to make minor errors that would bring down your total grade significantly. However all the questions were fair and were very similar to the practice questions given out. The final was not that bad, as he gave us 3 hours for a 8 question test, so we had plenty of time. The questions were relatively similar to the practice final, and were not hard, but not easy. Overall I would definitely take Professor Ramsey again if I had the chance!

Ramsey was a great professor and lecturer. His lectures were clear, and he explained topics well. There wasn't too much homework, but some of the problems could get quite hard/ time consuming. I found his office hours helpful though. Homework is graded on correctness, but the lowest homework is dropped. We also had weekly quizzes, with the lowest quiz also dropped. The quizzes were fairly straightforward since they were online and open note. I thought his exams were quite fair. He gave practice exams, and the actual exams would always be similar to the practice exams. Overall, I really recommend Ramsey.

I knew I wasn't good at math, but it took Math 61 for me to truly realize how bad it was. Discrete math can be really hard if you've never been exposed to math like this before. Despite this, Ramsey is a genuinely great professor who makes his lectures easy to follow along and interesting. The weekly homework and quizzes were manageable, but I found the two midterms and final very challenging. Most people taking this class are math/CS majors, so expect high averages for exams. In the end I had a C-. I have to be fair with myself and say I deserved that grade based on my overall understanding. Thankfully, I switched this class to P/NP, and even more thankfully Ramsey was lenient enough to curve it to a C (passing) in the end. Math 61 is definitely one of those "you either get it, or you don't" courses, and although I was often frustrated, I couldn't recommend Ramsey enough for trying to teach me as best he could.

Out of the handful of math classes I've taken at UCLA, Ramsey is one of the most engaging professors I've had. He was excellent at explaining concepts and topics. The homework was on the lighter side, with about 5 required problems each week, and more optional ones. Each week also had a short quiz. Overall, I managed to get through the required work in about 2 or so hours each week.

I felt like I understood most of the concepts, but this class' exams were pretty tough. If you are new to writing proofs, I would definitely recommend attending OH or discussion (which is optional). I found that I often times understood how to approach a problem, but had difficulties in articulating my thoughts on paper. The grading scheme is pretty lenient too, with two different schemes depending on if you wanted to count one midterm only, or both.

I don't think this class was too difficult, but you do need to spend some time in it to do well and get an A.

Ramsey was nice. His lectures could be repetitive, but that was generally a good way to hammer in material. His tests were not too tough (at least compared to other professors). The homework could have some confusing problems, but pretty much everything in this class was generously graded (dropping lowest hw/quiz, multiple grading schemes depending on midterm scores, etc.)

Professor Ramsey is a great teacher. He explains all the concepts clearly and thoroughly. Generally, he's very helpful and friendly as well. There is weekly homework which doesn't take more than a couple hours and a weekly quiz which is 25 minutes and timed on Gradescope. The midterms were somewhat challenging with median grades in the mid to high 80's. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Ramsey because of the fact that he's such a good teacher, the workload isn't too bad, but you learn a lot of interesting topics.

This professor does an INCREDIBLE job of teaching Math 61! He is so clear in lecture and his passion for the subject makes going to class truly an enjoyable experience for everyone. Definitely one of the best professors I've had at UCLA. Do not hesitate to take a class taught by Ramsey.
