Ramsey is a great professor who is engaging and accommodating. He answers any questions thrown his way, whether it be through email or in lecture. I really enjoyed his lectures as well; he goes into depth about topics to help solidify topics and concepts, and his drawings are quirky and entertaining. While the workload this quarter was a little more than normal with weekly quizzes, the quizzes themselves were not difficult and the exams were made easier with less proof and more application!
Professor Ramsey is such a great guy. His drawings are always a 10/10 (esp. his pigeons) and his explanations are always pretty clear. However, the material for this class was honestly really difficult for me and I struggled a lot. Regardless, I always enjoyed attending lecture because Ramsey was a really kind and funny professor. Overall, didn't vibe with the material but definitely loved Ramsey so if you can take this class with him, do it!!
Ramsey was a great professor and lecturer. His lectures were clear, and he explained topics well. There wasn't too much homework, but some of the problems could get quite hard/ time consuming. I found his office hours helpful though. Homework is graded on correctness, but the lowest homework is dropped. We also had weekly quizzes, with the lowest quiz also dropped. The quizzes were fairly straightforward since they were online and open note. I thought his exams were quite fair. He gave practice exams, and the actual exams would always be similar to the practice exams. Overall, I really recommend Ramsey.
One of my best math experiences at UCLA, Professor Ramsey had very engaging lectures that made the concepts quite clear. He made the concepts interesting to learn, and the lectures wouldn't feel long or tedious at all. The homework for each week was very light, with only about 5 required problems due that would take about an hour to finish. The midterms were average, but had many spots to make minor errors that would bring down your total grade significantly. However all the questions were fair and were very similar to the practice questions given out. The final was not that bad, as he gave us 3 hours for a 8 question test, so we had plenty of time. The questions were relatively similar to the practice final, and were not hard, but not easy. Overall I would definitely take Professor Ramsey again if I had the chance!
This class is not too bad. Ramsey is a decent lecturer who provides good explanations and examples in class. It’s sometimes disorganized due to the online format, but he provides notes afterwards. The quizzes and homework are at a decent difficulty. The first midterm was slightly hard but I think he adjusted the difficulty for midterm 2 and final, which is great. I definitely recommend taking a class with Ramsey as he is one of the better math professors.
Professor is very clear and thorough with his lectures. There are weekly quizzes and homeworks that are not too difficult, but the exams are definitely more difficult than what you may see on a quiz (given, this was an online quarter). I did not really enjoy this type of math, but I would definitely recommend this professor.
Amazing professor, loved the energy and enthusiasm he brought to lectures. My grade was lower than expected because I made the silliest of errors (and over-confidence really) but not a reflection of his teaching. I still loved this class and the material a lot.
HWs were fair and deadlines weren't too tight.
Exams were fair, although it is tough to get a hang of proving ideas in this class.
Lectures were engaging but COVID really did this man dirty, he would've been a treat to learn from under ordinary circumstances.
IF you can, take a class with him, very helpful and fun to learn math with.
Prof. Ramsey is one of the best professors I've had so far at UCLA. The class workload was very light with weekly quizzes (super short) and homework (3-5 questions). Mid-terms and finals tested whether you understood concepts but they weren't difficult if you knew the material. If you can, I would highly recommend that you take this class with him.
Ramsey was great. In terms of workload, this class had hardly any. We had weekly homework assignments and weekly quizzes, both not taking much time at all as homework had around 5 required problems per week and quizzes were 20 minutes (and online). He is a very nice professor who explains Discrete Math in a way that makes sense--he uses a lot of analogies and examples to kind of "dumb it down." Not to mention his tests are extremely reasonable, and I would say easier compared to other professors teaching this class. His grading scheme is also really favorable, as he allows you to drop one midterm score. He also allowed one extra credit point on a midterm if you completed a mid-quarter survey (his midterms are out of 20 points, so it ends up being a 5% boost to one exam). The content can be confusing, but Ramsey is a really great lecturer and I'd recommend him to anyone.
He's alright. I personally didn't find this class easy. It could be because of the online format that really hinders motivation, but regardless, I think his homework doesn't really prepare you for exams. He was very clear in lecture, just wish he taught at the same rigor he expected applied for tests.
