Summer 2019 - I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to this class. It is the absolute WORST. The exams are IMPOSSIBLE to pass because they require you to answer everything word for word. If you slightly misspell something you get points off. I got points off for forgetting to add an adjective before my answer. I didn't listen to the reviews here and thought I would pass by studying hard but it is indeed as bad as everyone says it is. Save yourselves and your mental health.

I also took him for LS2 with Simmons, and I think he was definitely the better of the two professors. I think he even showed instances of being annoyed to have to teach with Simmons, because Simmons would take so long with his lectures and ended up taking away time from Cooper's lectures. Anyway.... Cooper explains things well, after reading the post below mine I kind of wished I would have gotten to know him in office hours. He likes to draw diagrams a lot, which I thought was helpful but he did tend to repeatedly draw some figures (smooth tissue of an artery for example). Personally, I found the material in this class extremely interesting, and basically confirmed to me that I would like to be a Physiological Science major (meaning I guess that I will probably see Cooper in the future). I got an A, and easily. My TA basically gave me and the entire class full points for discussion section, but I hear others were no so kind. I found this class very easy, but apparently others find it very hard. I don't really see why, but I guess I'm just good at memorizing. Basically just try to your best ability to memorize every lecture slide and you will do fine. I highly recommend reading the book, as it helps understand the "big picture" of things and to know the concepts. I found it tough sometimes to understand the material solely with the slides. So don't be lazy, and study study study! Memorize those slides, and attend lectures especially if there are clicker questions. You never know when a bunch will be asked. Anyway, good professor. People apparently constantly praise Esdin and make it seem like you MUST take LS2 with him. I don't know how good he is, but Cooper wasn't bad himself.

Winter 2022 - Unbelievably unclear lecturer, does not answer student questions, does not explain iclicker questions, does not know how to explain advanced 7c concepts beyond what is presented on the slides. I am actually unconfident that Cooper himself would be able to pass one of the midterms or the final for this class based on how visibly confused he was when trying to answer the much easier iclicker questions. Cooper needs to be retired into an easier profession because he is doing an extreme disservice to his students. I took this class with Esdin as well, who is a great professor and much better. I wish my tuition payment for this class went towards the quality of education I got with Esdin rather than the hot mess of Cooper

Fall 2023 - Professor Cooper, or as I like to call him 'lil Coop was not my fave physci professor. He gives a 20-30minutes speech before each lab and he speaks quietly and trails off his sentences so you can barely hear him sometimes. There's not much else to critique since the lab structure/grading has been set for a long time. Ali is very helpful as a TA in lab and if you go to office hours he will indirectly guide you on how to answer your worksheets for fuller credit. I will say I dreaded writing the lab reports and worksheets for this class. It took SO MUCH TIME. When they say it takes 12 hours to complete a worksheet, they mean it. This is not something you can do the night before it is due. I also was stressed cause I wanted an A but I averaged A-'s on the first two graded assignments but again going to office hours, I was able to move up to an A. Def hard since he says the average is a solid A-, B+, but doable. You just gotta get this class over with, and ideally the sooner the better.

LS2 Review AVOID this guy. He is angry at himself and therefore cannot teach. The only thing he knows is insulin/pancreatic B cells. H is NOT approachable. He should retire and stop ruining people's grades. The worst part of this class was the combination of Cooper with Flugle. Terrible combination. Avoid Cooper, either start caring for your students or go home Cooper. OK? bye
