Roger is a specific style of teacher who doesn't hold your hand. His comments are minimal. This is not the class for an artist who lacks confidence and needs workshops and lessons. It is studio time with an established artist (Herman) available to give you perspective. Hands down the painting class to take if you have found your voice and would like to develop it further.
I found him confusing, apathetic, and non-conceptual (his grasp of student's ideas and concepts was both limiting and negative). Whenever I felt like I was getting somewhere he never failed to disapprove. But for those who enjoy painting banal pretty pictures he is definitely your type, as long as you dislike Art History he will agree with you. But honestly I have never had a teacher who gives so little feed-back, and then bribes with so much food...
