Absolutely incredible professor. This subject itself is difficult but watching Bruinsma get so passionate about the topic made everything a little bit easier. I looked forward to coming to class every day. The tests were actually fair compared to the homework and the material taught, but it doesn't change the fact that quantum mechanics can get really hard. Homeworks were kind of tedious. The textbook is a surprisingly easy read but Bruinsma's lecture notes are next level, so it definitely pushes you to spend a lot of time with the material on your own. Bruinsma cares about his students and it shows. So thankful to have had him as a professor!!
TL,DR: Class is super hard & a lot of work, Dr. Bruinsma is a really excellent professor.
This class was incredibly difficult. The homework ate up all of my time, the exams were really complex, etc, but all of that's p much to be expected from a quantum mechanics class. Dr. Bruinsma did an incredible job walking through the material and answering questions, while still heaping work onto us. Be a little wary of the syllabus, as halfway through the quarter Dr. Bruinsma decided to have a second midterm (that had not been on the syllabus). Because of that exam, there was one point in the class where we had a full homework assignment due Friday, then another full assignment due Monday, and an exam on Wednesday. Also he ended up assigning homework that was due after the final exam. That in mind, he really worked hard to help us understand the material, pushed back some homework deadlines, and extended the final from 24 to 48 hours to accommodate people's final schedules. This class is not easy, but Dr. Bruinsma is a great professor to take the class with.
Also, he's Dutch, and as such has a delightful accent. Says 'assume' like 'ash-oom' and it's wonderful.
