ARTS & ARCHITECTURE 10
Do not take this class: there is no textbook, which I thought was a good thing at first, but it turns out that you can't study for the MidTerm or Final. Professor Winters is nice and exciting, but he doesn't tell you what to study or how to study or anything about his class, so it is impossible to predict what is going to be on his exams. You basically take notes (on something, I am not sure what) for 2 hours every day and then you have to memorize everything in your notebook for every exam, and then it turns out nothing what you took notes on is on the exam. The Final is also cumulative, so it is impossible to do well on. You also have to pay $60 to buy tickets for artistic shows, and you have to write 2 essays for each show, and it is hard to get good grade on them because again. you are not told what to write about.
I took Arts and Architecture 10 (course option wasn't given in drop-down menu)
I would absolutely NOT recommend this course to anyone. It is not an easy A unless you're an athlete. You learn nothing, and after having memorized several pointless, non-coherent facts, chances are you won't get the grade you deserve. Take any other more fulfilling GE course.
The professor is extremely biased -- students involved in sports that missed several lectures received A+'s, while students that attended every singly lecture religiously and went to the review sessions got B's or lower.
It's was painful having to sit through the unstimulating, long lectures, and his pompous attitude only added to my displeasure of taking the course.
Discussions are even worse. Suck up hard to the TA is my only advice, I personally got screwed over by mine.
Arts and Architecture 10
The biggest waste of time ever.
It wasnt a difficult or demanding course, but the material was so pointless and I felt my time and money were wasted by taking this class.
I came into the course expecting an easy GE and got exactly that, but also had to spend 4 hours a week in that class.
Don't take winter. The tests are random trivia. I attended ALL lectures, studied my ass off, and still didn't do well on the final. You have to know "the right stuff" to do extremely well. I wouldn't take him again.
Professor Winter is an excellent lecturer who is both funny and intelligent. However, his exam questions are mostly based on the performances so it is important that you go to class. Some of the questions are really random and he never mentioned them in his review sessions, which caught me off guard. He doesn't give out study guides, so make sure you share notes with somebody! Some say this class is extremely easy, but don't take it for granted because his TAs can grade harshly on the papers and participation.
Oh and for the final, he barely gave a "generous" curve, which sucked.
Horrible professor. Barely teaches shit. The things I learn are all from guests that he brings in. The stuff he talks about is just random and pointless. He made us memorize a map of the middle east for the midterm. What does that have to do with music, even if it's music from the middle east.
The only good thing is that his class is incredibly easy. You could just not do the midterm or final and still get an A+ by doing enough extra credit.
Oh, and don't bother emailing him, because he doesnt read them.
