Literally 0 complaints. Fink is awesome. It also helps if you have a chill TA. Fink is very organized which is super nice. As a South campus major this was a GE god-send, it was super easy, low work load, and a fun class. Basically you've just got a couple assignments and an essay for the final, which we didn't even have to take if we didn't want to because of the protests. I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking for a fun, easy GE. 10/10
super easy and chill online class - grade was comprised of essays and lenient discussion participation! prof fink was the best he made his lectures entertaining and interesting even though classes were all online.
Highly recommend this class. I'm a STEM major who took this class because other GEs available had terrible ratings, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Professor Fink is engaging, funny, and clearly knowledgeable about the class content. Because of COVID, the class was online. Each week, professor Fink released 3 video lectures to watch, put out some short readings, and recommended a few songs to listen to. Usually I did all of this in a single morning or over two days. Your grade is usually based on two easy assignments (20% each), a midterm essay (15%), discussion participation (30%), and the final (15%). Both the professor and the TAs (I had Sarah she's amazing) were extremely accommodating of the stress of COVID and made the final optional when many students asked professors to do so during the Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd.
I really enjoyed this class and it was a chill course to take during the craziness of Covid. I took it online so many things were changed but overall I would definitely recommend this course. It's clear that Professor Fink really loves the subject and he put in a ton of effort into his videos. Every week we got about 3 lecture videos to watch and even in voice-overs, Fink has funny commentary. He keeps it engaging. There were also weekly readings that basically reiterated the main ideas said in the videos. Discussion sections were mandatory as participation was counted. As long as you knew the gist of what was going on for the week, participated in the discussions and watched all the lectures it was not a hard class at all.
The exam/test formats were different for us since it was all online but the grades consisted of one rhythm assignment (coming up with rhythms), a midterm essay (released a week ahead), a report and a final essay. The essay became optional in light of the events at the time. Grades depend on the TA; I had Sarah and she was great. The TAs and Professor are all extremely understanding and helpful people. All in all I recommend this class for a fun and interesting GE
TAKE THIS CLASS! Interesting topic and Fink is not only engaging, but also super helpful out of class. Grading is more so dependent on your TA but everyone tends to get A's if you put in effort. Go to lecture and you should be fine on both midterm and final. Don't skip because he starts taking attendance for credit.
Professor Fink is great. Take this class whether you love EDM or your just curious about it. It is really interesting and professor Fink does a great job explaining the material. Don't expect to focus entirely on todays EDM scene because the bulk of the class is about the very beginning of it in the US and the UK. Overall the class was easy in my opinion. Two assignments one in which you create your drum rhythm and the other is a short essay about your experience watching an edm set in person. A midterm and final with essay portions. Discussion is mandatory since its a part of your grade but all the TA's were pretty chill. overall a really interesting and fun class.
