I also usually write really detailed reviews of professors and courses, but since Professor Fovell mostly teaches upper divs and only does GEs once in a blue moon, I'm not going to give an overview of A&O3. I just want to say that Professor Fovell is one of the best professors I have ever had. Science is tough for me, but he made the information interesting and accessible— so much so that I almost considered double majoring in A&O... then I remembered I can't do calculus to save my life, so I came to my senses— but the point is he's so good that he can make his south campus subject appealing to die-hard north campus majors.
He's just a great person— sweet, concerned about his students (never have heard of a professor who offers so many office hours), and funny (okay, his jokes can be corny, but his delivery makes everyone smile, if not crack up). He also gave us advice that I will never forget and that has really helped me in all my other classes— The four keys to succeeding in school: (1) Go to class, (2) Sit in the front, (3) Rewrite your lecture notes, and (4) Get to know the professor before you have to (i.e. not when you're failing a week before the final). He's full of simple, but wise advice like that. Absolutely love this guy.
Fovell is the best professor I've had so far. He doesn't use a textbook or powerpoint, just his notes, chalk, and ton's of examples during lectures. Some of the topics were a little difficult to understand, but he explains them very clearly multiple times and offers extra "tutoring" office hours for those who want more help. Some questions on the midterm and final were a bit tricky and require a good understanding of the material, but as long as you go to lecture and take thorough notes, this class is a piece of cake and you learn some pretty cool things.
