Professor Brown is a very nice guy. He's patient and super helpful when you come to his office hour. He made the material very understandable so the class itself was not very hard. We had weekly quizzes which came straight from the textbook questions and you can literally get full points for all the quizzes as long as you do his weekly assignments( we didn't collect them ). The midterm and final were fairly easy. Overall, super chill class. I took it along with math 131B and I would say this class is a lot easier.
Optimization is useful in a lot of industries. Math 164 is a combination of proofs and applications. Professor Brown explains every method with details. He is patient and willing to answer any question. He is also willing to go over the homework problems in the office hour.
Exams are easy as long as you read the notes (especially the proofs) carefully, and do all the homework problems and practice exams.
This guy is a major a**hole, he's definitely not concerned with his students. He won't let you re-take the midterm even if you have a valid medical reason. He also refuses to weigh the grading policy fairly. Good professor to take if you know your stuff and do all the homework and go to all the quizzes and have no medical problems. He goes way too fast in class but I've heard he's helpful during office hours. But if you have medical issues, don't expect this jerk to accommodate you in any way shape or form.
