I had to take this class as it is a new requirement for the music industry minor. I would not take it unless you absolutely must, or if you are in desperate need of an easy no-brainer class. I really do not enjoy leaving negative reviews for professors or classes but the direness of this situation absolutely forced me to. The professor forces you to buy his absolute garbage of an outdated book (Daniel Passman's remains a classic in the industry for good reason). And in the end gives you extra credit for leaving him a review on Amazon, telling us to "sound smart" several times in his instructions. He is so full of himself and I had to stomach his ramblings for three hours every Wednesday night. I got an A in this class so I have no complaints on my grade. I guess take it if you're a premed?
It is literally impossible to get anything below an A in this class unless you don't turn in anything, and it is clear in lectures that Professor Borg has a lot of experience and knowledge behind the concepts he talks about. The midterm for Fall 2023 was very hands-on and gave everyone a chance to develop artist promotion strategies in a safe space. I think that this course was genuinely a great primer on a variety of topics in the music industry, and there was enough time spent on every topic to help students see what they might be interested in when they go on to their professional careers. The only aspect of this class that might be annoying is the fact that it is three hours long and runs till kind of late, but it was still definitely one of those classes that you don't really have to worry about if you're trying to juggle heavy coursework on the side.
