1. The 2 midterms were EXACTLY like the homework. Do the homework, and you'll do well on the midterms 2. Lecture could get a little confusing because he moves pretty fast through the material. Ask him a question to slow him down 3. The beginning integration material is what most of the course is, and since it's really easy, it put the class average really high. When we got into multivariable calc, you could tell everyone was getting confused, and this is what might have changed the class average, because half the final was on multivariable calc That being said, this was the class I was least worried about, because if you do the homework and understand it, you'll do well in the class. Oh, also, my TA(Sherwood) was AMAZING. If you have any questions, ask your TAs during discussion. I also recommend taking a Thursday discussion, because homework is due Fridays, and by Thursday you should have your questions prepared.

Professor Oberlin pretty much sucks at explaining. Not only does he wear the same clothes to lecture, but he messes up on the board and students ALWAYS correct his mistakes. Although his tests are straightforward and similar to the homework, he is not that great of a person either. When he grades your tests, he gives you the least amount of points possible regardless if your work is correct. He basically refused to understand how I approached a problem, when I actually did it right, and he only gave me less than half the points! However, the TAs are pretty good--get Nikki Meshkat if you can. She's awesome. I think this is Oberlin's first time teaching 3C, and I hope UCLA hires better math professors who truly care about student learning.

After taking Oberlin's class for Math 33B, it's pretty obvious he's a 3 series professor (no offense to those who take the 3 series). His tests were extremely easy (averages ranged between 85% to 95%), and all of the tests are pretty much straightforward. If you're taking him for the Math 31,32,33 series, be prepared for an extremely high average.

I had Professor Oberlin for 115A. 115A is kind of the standard first upper division math class that most people take. I would strongly recommended Prof. Oberlin for this class and other upper divisions if possible. I do not know about his teaching in lower div. classes so I can't speak for that. He presented the material in a straightforward, but organized way. He moved pretty fast and covered a lot in a class but he also had 3 office hours a week so if you had questions, you could go to those. 115A also meets 5 times a week (2 discussions) so there is a lot of help available which is good. One thing I liked about Oberlin was that since the class does emphasize proof writing, he did an intro to proof by contradiction/contrapositive and induction. It was not too thorough but it was pretty good. His first midterm (I am currently in the class) was really fair. I thought the average would be really high but it turned out to only be 50%. If you are able to do the homework problems and such, you should be good. He does definitely emphasize proofs on his tests, as should be the case in 115A (33A is the more computational side of Linear Algebra). The proofs on the test are doable though. I obviously liked Oberlin since I am taking him again next quarter. He is a good professor- maybe a little less talkative/personal in his OHs than other professor but a cool guy too.

This was the hardest and worst class I have taken at UCLA. The pace of the class is very fast, and the professor showed little concern with the difficulty of the material. The professor was very vague on what he wanted you to know, and then impossible questions would show up on the exams. I would take the course again, but I have no vested interest in the material and I couldn't put myself through the torture of a class like that again.
