Very fun and easy class...just a lot of recall questions. Prof. Ong had well prepared lectures and slides, and was very concerned with student learning. HIs curve made it fairly easy for all who tried to get a good grade. I like the guy, he's tight
Very nice man and great class. First of all, Ong puts his lecture notes online, and they are very well written and organized. Second, the material is actually very interesting, making it pretty easy to learn. Third, labs are super easy, and the TAs are nice (well at least Alaina Henry was). Great class to take for a GE. Ong seems really concerned about his students learning the material, and he makes the lectures entertaining with jokes and whatnot. Definitely recommend taking this class!!!
I stopped going to class after the 2nd week and still got an A+. You do ALWAYS have to go to the lab though but don't worry if you can't sign up for the section you need, you'll pretty much get to go whenever you want. Also, he tries to give out as many PTEs as he can. Although it was an easy class, you do have to study. All of the lecture notes are posted online, so just print them out and read them the day before the midterm or final. He was very enthusiastic about the material though so if you do choose to go to class, it's not that bad. I'd definitely recommend this course.
Ong did a really good job of displaying his slides, and then talking about the slides once they were displayed. The course material is awesome, and he is very excited about it, which is a sensational combination. One day, when people think of Astronomy, they'll think "Rene". Sincerely,
Sam
Prof. Ong is great! His lectures are really organized and he truly cares about everyone understanding the material and doing well in the class. He also makes himself very available if you're confused on the information and he helps you review really well for the midterms and final. This is an interesting class, and it's pretty easy too. Just keep up with the lectures.
Professor Ong's Astro 3 class was a great start to my first quarter at UCLA. He is an entertaining and interesting lecturer, and he moves at a reasonable pace. He is also very concerned with helping students and making sure they understand the material. He holds plenty of review sessions for the tests, and is always willing to answer any questions. This is a great way to fill a physical science GE, especially if you are not a science person. I found Astronomy to be a fascinating class, and I cannot reccommend Professor Ong highly enough.
This class was a piece of cake! I didn't feel like putting effort in it so i took it p/np. I never went to the lectures and even missed a couple of labs. All I had to do was look at the review notes. If I hadn't gotten a "P", I still would've gotten a B. And the amazing thing is, from going to the few lectures that I went to and by reading the review notes, I was able to obtain some valuable information for my complimentary pair, astro 6. I highly recomment that you take astro 3 with Ong!
Super easy course. I never went to the lectures. I made the mistake of not reading the review notes the first time around. Let me emphasize, all you have to do is 1.) read the review notes and 2.) go to the silly little labs. The labs are annoying and some of the TAs are not that knowledgeable--basically a waste of time. You'll get an A if you do those 2 things.
This was the easiest class I've ever taken. I took it in my 3rd year here for an easy A and I succeeded. I only came to the midterms and the final and I got an A. You can tell it's an easy class since the athletic director takes attendance to make sure the athletes show up.
