Professor Waung is an excellent professor. He is extremely good at explaining and clarifying and makes absolutely sure that what he says is being understood and there are no misunderstandings and everyone knows what's going on, what the homework is, when the midterms are, when office hours are, etc. His office hours are extremely helpful and he does well to explain the concepts without giving away the answer. His cheesy jokes do well to make sure the class is still engaged. His entire class is formatted very well; there is a perfect amount of homework that is assigned once a week. The additional problems and practice midterms are also very helpful. And his exams are very good at testing understanding; they are not overly difficult, they test exactly what we have learned, and there are no unnecessary curveballs. The pace of the class is also not too fast despite the fact that an entire quarter's work is crammed into 6 weeks. Professor Waung made a seemingly daunting class very attainable as long as the student puts in the work. I was previously very uninterested in physics but Professor Waung has made it interesting!!!

I loved Prof. Waung. He's dorky and knows it too. My class had lots of coughers so he brought cough drops to the midterms and final exam. Prof. Waung also brought Diddy Riese and See's Candies to the final exam as well. Waung is straightforward and writes down literally everything he says, so that's very helpful. He also provides suggested review problems for every chapter as well.

Grading scheme: Homework 10%, Laboratory 15%, Midterm 1 20%, Midterm 2 20%, and Final Exam 35%

Stats for Midterm 1:
# of Students: 121, Std. Dev: 22.0, Avg: 65.8, and Median: 69.
Stats for Midterm 2:
# of Students: 116, Std. Dev: 20.3, Avg: 68.2, and Median: 72.

I would recommend finding past exams because those will be very similar to what you will be tested on. Discussion isn't mandatory and mine wasn't really helpful.

Dr. Waung was, and probably will remain, my favorite professor at UCLA. He was EXTREMELY helpful, and I doubt I would've survived Physics 6B with any other professor. I received a 91 on my first midterm with NO curve, something I didn't even think was possible. He allows you to have notecards for all exams, and holds review sessions prior to the exams. He gives very clear and engaging lectures, and is very nice as well, even bringing us Diddy Riese on the day of the final. TAKE DR. WAUNG FOR PHYS. There is absolutely no other way to go.

I took Professor Waung's 6B course during the summer, and he was an excellent professor/teacher. The material may be difficult, but his organization and dedication towards explaining things to students in a clear manner makes the material not only manageable but enjoyable.

Would highly recommend!

He is an amazing professor. He is a professor who genuinely find joy in teaching. He hosts multiple office hours, including "happy hours" to help students to hone their understandings. I highly recommend anyone to take his course. He has abundant knowledge in the physics and he displays that through his structured lectures.

BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT UCLA! his tests are very fair, just like the practice midterms he gives you. he is nice and extremely clear about all the material he presents in class. seriously, the averages on his midterms are like 78/100. which is really high for science at ucla. he doesn't curve anyone down and the final is hard but still fair. AWESOME professor, as well as super adorable and nice. he brought diddy reise for everyone to the final... need i say more? take his class.

Professor Waung is probably the best professor I've had at UCLA (probably tied with Phelan). He is an AMAZING lecturer, and even though 6B is supposed the be the hardest of the 6 series, he made the topics extremely easy to understand without taking any shortcuts. He is such a nice and likable person as well, and understands that tests freak students out (he gave us an hour per midterm instead of the usual 50 minutes, many times adding 5-10 minutes if a lot of people weren't done), the day of the final he brought a bunch of snacks to pass around too. The class definitely requires work/studying outside of class, but Waung is the best chance you have at actually understanding 6B material. He did a BUNCH of examples in class and the exams are very fair and similar to examples he gives(he never tries to trick you like some other professors do). If he is teaching, MAKE SURE to take him!

I took Physics 6B with Dr. Waung in the Summer of 2008. The 'B' class is supposedly the most challenging in either Physics 1 or Physics 6 series. Waung is your classic physics teacher. His tests are difficult, because that's how physics is. He is an excellent lecturer, but he takes no shortcuts. He is very traditional in his approach. Please take good notes. He seems like a nice person; he is always smiling. One thing about Dr. Waung is that he seems powerless in giving grades. All grading and re-grading are handled by the TA's. If you come to Dr. Waung to explain your line of reasoning and why you think the TA's were quite unfair in assigning too few points on your exam, it will be useless-- he will direct your paper back to the TA anyway.

I got a B- in the class, which was a real downer from the A- and the enjoyment I got from Dr. Nassar's Physics 6A class. Anyway I'm just glad not to have gotten a C+ or below. I guess the worst is over. ^_^

professor waung is the AWESOME. take him for sure because he will make the material actually ENJOYABLE. which is really hard to do considering the material is really heavy stuff. he's always smiling and upbeat, which helps the lecture go by more smoothly and faster. he's the most down-to-earth, happy-go-lucky professor ive ever met. very sweet guy. his midterms are straightforward and are not tricky; as long as you understand all the homework problems you'll do fine. in short, if you must take this class, you should take professor waung. He's just an overall sweet and nice guy and i enjoyed being his student.

Professor Waung is very cute and funny. He tries very hard to make physics fun and understandable. His midterms very extremely easy. Just do the homework problems and you'll be totally fine on the midterms (score in the 90's!!!). Now, the final is what I have to warn you about. I got 100 on both midterms. ok? For the final, I thought, "well, how hard can he make it??" WELL! HE MADE IT SO DAMN HARD! It was kinda harsh. We were probably the last people taking finals on the campus and he was really brutal with his final. His questions were really tricky!!! I did get an A in the class, but for the whole week I was worrying that I will lose my A because I did really bad on the final. The curve was very low though so that's what helped me. My advice for the final, study hard and focuse on both homework and on suggested problems! Overall, Waung was a very organized and caring professor. So, take any physics class you can with him! Good luck!
