There are truly no words. I LOVED Chem 17 with Professor Reslan!! As a psychology major who’s about as non-STEM as it gets, I was terrified. But Reslan, the TAs, and the LAs somehow turned this class into one I actually started looking forward to?? Which is so strange.... But, yeah, I could not recommend this class more. If you study and put the work in, you'll ace it! That's for sure. As for logistics, lecture attendance isn’t all that necessary—I skipped a bunch towards the end, crammed hard the weekend before each exam, and still aced them. Discussion, though, is an absolute godsend. Granted, you’re required to go anyway unless you’re okay with losing participation points (she allows one absence). But section was so helpful--every single one. There's also a mini lecture in the beginning of each section so if you're lucky and get a good TA (Kathryn was amazing), you can survive off of these lectures and youtube videos. Yeah, if you're thinking about taking Chem 17 some other time with some other professor, don't. :) It's the best decision you'll ever make!
I love Professor Reslan. She is just a good human being. If you need help and you ask for help, she will be there to provide what you need! Not the clearest lectures...but if you show up and TRY, you will be fine. Attended all of her office hours and her TA's office hours. Take initiative...don't be lazy...she is kind and will help you through it!
Professor Reslan is super nice. She is very funny and amiable. The workload is light, the class material is pretty easy, and the exams are not hard at all. Professor Reslan would post practice exams before every test, and if you get all of that, you will do well.
I personally think that sometimes Professor Reslan does not explain the material clear enough, so if you are looking to build a strong foundation in chemistry, maybe this class is not the best choice? But if you just want an easy chemistry credit and be done with chemistry, this is a great class for you.
I would recommend this class 100%
It really has to do a lot with the professor because Dr.Reslan made this class enjoyable. She is so helpful and thankfully the tutor was helpful as well. This class was probably my least stressful one.
YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS! I’m gonna keep this review simple.
Reasons to take this class:
1. It’s so easy - I can almost ensure you will get an A
2. Prof writes practice tests before the midterms and final that are literally the tests you will be taking
3. Prof is so funny and such a sweet person
4. There is barely any homework
5. You get chem credit for such an easy class!
PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS. TRUST ME.
Prof. Reslan always gives out clear study guide and plenty of practice questions. She also makes herself available through office hours and after class and truly cares for all of her students. Her classes are so fun because she likes to make jokes every now and then. Prof. Reslan is a very likable person, and I would definitely recommend taking Chem 17 with her!
Randa Reslan is one of the best professors at UCLA. For her tests, just study the practice tests as most of the questions on the test are the same as the ones on the practice test but with slightly different numbers. Overall, very easy class. I personally just watched the lectures and didn't even attend class as they were recorded, and this was enough to earn an A+.
