As you know by now, the LS7 series SUCKS. 7C was by far my least favorite (and the hardest/densest) of the series. I never wanted to be a doctor, but now I KNOW that I could never be a doctor. Khankan is cool though. She's really great at explaining everything and has fun office hours.

I absolutely loved LS 7C with Khankan. Her lectures were very engaging, and the fact that her voice is loud helped me stay awake and alert for our morning lectures. I felt comfortable enough to ask her any question that I wanted because she is so welcoming and kind. She explains concepts very well, and it is evident that she cares about her student's learning.

*TOOK DURING COVID PANDEMIC*
THE LS SERIES WAS SO HARD, for me anyways. Professor Khankan taught the first half of my class and her lectures were very engaging! She knows the material very well and she makes you feel very comfortable in her class. The exams for this class were a bit difficult just because there is so much you need to know. If you take this class, please don't pick Eranthi as your TA for discussion. She is so picky!

Professor Khankan is truly one of the best professors I've taken from the LS series. She explained each clicker questions well, and she is clear with her explanation during office hours. I like her teaching style because she is concise in teaching hard concepts. I've never got 100% in an LS midterm before, but I think that my learning became easier because of her explanations!

Here is some advice that helps me succeed in this class:
- Attend each CLC sessions (VERY HELPFUL)
- Go to one of her office hours each week and have your questions ready (review the slides before going)
- Start reading the learning objectives every week before doing the launchpad homework.
- During the lecture, write an explanation for each of the clicker questions. Mark the CQ you got wrong, and have this ready for office hours.
- When studying for a midterm, try to come up with questions that answer the different choices from a clicker question.
- Answer the learning objectives either through writing or vocally when studying for a test.
- I usually don't read launchpad. However, if you don't know anything what the professor talked about after the synchronous lecture, let those new terms be the guide to skim over the launchpad readings.
- CAMPUSWIRE—look through your peers' questions because you might have the same concerns.
- Study the discussion sheet provided because some are in the midterms.

Having Dr. Khankan as a professor for the beginning of LS7C was a great fit. Her lecturing style is very straightforward and clear, and she answers all questions that students will have in chat. She's a huge help during lecture and I highly recommend taking this class with her. Even though the beginning of the course's material is more difficult to understand, Prof. Khankan is AMAZING at explaining concepts clearly that even someone like me that barely pays attention in class will still learn something from lecture.
I do have a personal irk (?) however, as I felt like I couldn't rely on her to answer my questions during exams. I had asked a clarification question about an exam prompt and she simply told me to reread the question (as if I hadn't a dozen times). All I asked was confirmation that I was reading the question correctly and comparing 2 sets of data against each other (as stated by prompt), which unfortunately wasn't answered. I'm sure she was swamped by other students' questions, but a simple "yes" or "no" would've been nice.
Despite that, I still really appreciate the effort Dr. Khankan puts into this class and how she makes sure that every student's question is clarified during lecture. Totally recommend.

Khankan is one of the best biology teachers, and to be quite frank blows all the other 7 series instructors out of the water. She is so helpful and incredibly engaging in her lectures. I had the pleasure of having her for 7A and 7C so I was quite aware on how she runs a class. Since this is 7C you should be somewhat aware how they structure test, and I would say 7C has the more easier tests, though that may just be because the content in this class is more enjoyable than the other classes. I can guarantee that you will not have a bad time with class if you take it with Khankan.

Dr. Khankan knows her physiology and truly enjoys teaching this class. I would say this is the hardest of the 7 series. Week 1 is all about preparation for the course and cell signaling, weeks 2-7 are focused on specific body systems and weeks 8-10 go back to genome analysis and genetic engineering (these belong in 7A in my opinion). This is a classic 7 series class, there are 2 midterms and a final, launchpad weekly, and discussion worksheets. I think the hardest part of this class is knowing what they are going to test on because there is so much total information. I would focus on slides and discussion worksheets over launchpad. This is Khankan's "signature" class and she will always go beyond the material if the students want. 7C is pretty much another class to get through but I would recommend getting through it with Khankan.

I’ve never written a review here but my deep disdain for Rana Khankan and the LS Core has convinced me to do so. I usually think this is a waste of time, and I still do, but i feel like it’s my obligation to tell students what it’s like dealing with this teacher, this department, and the LS series in general. Before you read my review, do not be discouraged to take LS7C. It is completely doable and you can get an A as long as you are willing to put in the work, understand the concepts, and utilize your resources. But if you’re like me and science is not your best subject, expect to put in A LOT of work, and realize that the amount of hours you put in studying may not reflect your exam scores, especially with the the way the LSCORE designs their exams to trick students and not accurately test their knowledge of the material. Do not except any sort of respect as a person from Rana Khankan or the any of the LS teachers when you take this class. They’ve showed their true colors during this pandemic, in that they are unwilling to accommodate students or provide a fair and equitable learning experience for everyone. For the midterms, there was absolutely no effort to tell students what they got wrong which is a terrible way of conducting exams. We were simply told that giving out midterm answers is not a way of learning from your mistakes, since there is no one in person that can provide an explanation. As one can imagine, this is a BS of an excuse and there were a multitude of options to provide students with explanations in a securely remote manner. Students on campuswire voiced their concerns about this, and instead of addressing the issue, Rana Khankan went full damage control mode and began to delete posts from students. The fact that these professors think it is acceptable to play with students’ grades and possibly their livelihoods during a global pandemic simply reflects the teachers’ lack of awareness and empathy towards students. Learning from your mistakes is a fundamental way of improving academically, and it was especially important to know the material for subsequent exams. Clicker points were based on correction for this quarter which is something that hasn’t been done in the other LS classes that I’ve taken. Discussions were graded much more strictly than previous quarters too, making our grades exclusively dependent on the poorly written exams. Understandably, the teachers are enforcing a level of rigor for the class, but there comes a point when things are unreasonable and detrimental to the students’ learning experience especially in an online environment. My frustration for the teachers and the LSCORE goes far beyond anything I can write in this review. You must take the class yourself to realize how many fallacies are involved and how much the teachers do not care about you and only view you as a statistic.

Dr. Khankan was definitely one of the best STEM professors I've had at UCLA. She was very clear and concise in her answers and provided a full explanation for each of the mechanisms and feedback loops we needed to learn in 7C. While many may argue that since the LS 7 series is standardized, the professor doesn't really matter. However, I disagree with this notion after taking Dr. Khankan's class because I most likely would not have adequately understood the content if not for her clear explanations and willingness to answer student questions. She was also VERY accommodating during the COVID pandemic and the BLM movement so much that everyone received 100% on the final exam. She also adjusted seamlessly to remote learning so I found it easier to learn online during this class. If you take 7C, take it with Khankan!

Prof. Khankan is easily one of the best LS professors. She is clear, organized, and explains concepts well. She also was able to answer questions during lecture in a clear and efficient manner. Lecture was synchronous on Zoom and clickers were done on iClicker Reef (we got free access), but she only taught the first half of the course. Discussions were also synchronous and mandatory for the whole quarter. The Launchpad assignments were similar in length to 7A. One big difference for online vs in-person classes was that the midterms were a combination of multiple choice and free response (throwback to AP Bio) instead of all multiple choice. The first midterm was broken down into 60 pts MC and 30 pts FRQ, but after receiving feedback the second midterm was 70 pts MC and 20 pts FRQ to reduce the time crunch. Exams were open from 4pm to 8pm, and we had an hour to do each portion of the exam. We were given full credit for the final due to protests.
