Professor Khankan did a really great job explaining the material! She's a really great lecturer, so if you have the chance, I would take it with her. To study for the midterm and final, I would just watch her bruincasts and it was enough.

Dr. Khankan is hands down the best professor I've had so far at UCLA. She teaches with such a passion and will happily answer everyone's questions with diagrams and drawings that make it so much easier to understand. I've heard a lot of scary stories about 7C but it's really not bad- the material is dense but it's so interesting and if you stay on top of it by going to Khankan's office hours (which are VERY helpful!!) then you will be fine! This has actually been my favorite class in the 7 series. Definitely take it with Khankan- you won't be let down and will end up learning a lot more because she brings in relevant info from current projects going on in science, plus discusses her research as a post-grad a bit which is super fascinating.

Professor Kankan is by far the best professor I have had for the LS 7 series and would recommend her to everyone. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. She truly seems to care about helping students understand the material and do well on the exams, which are themselves standard for the 7 series.

Before I get into details, I want to note that the curriculum covered in this class is extremely difficult, but Prof Khankan makes it so easy to understand. I took 7C spring '20 which was probably one of the most difficult times for students, and this class was actually taught as a hybrid with another professor this quarter. Not to bash the other professor, but I felt much more confident in what I learned when Prof. Khankan was teaching. She is so enthusiastic about this topic which is so important as a student trying to stay motivated. Her lectures are very clear, she did a wonderful job with the switch to online learning. I think the most important thing to consider is the way she handled this change. She showed her character by being very prepared and organized going into this, and also through her accommodations toward the end of the quarter. 5 stars for this woman, protect her at all costs

I actually didn't have this professor. But I crashed her Zoom lectures multiple times and went to her Office Hours often. She explains everything SO WELL. Words cannot describe how amazing she is. She genuinely cares for all students' learning. Tests in LS series are always difficult, but Dr.Khankan explains concepts really well. She is also a very fun person to engage a conversation with. She was Hedrick Hall's staff in residence and participated in many dorm activities. She is truly a wonderful person and I love her so much. If I had to rate her on a scale of 10, she would get a solid 100.

Prof. Khankan is easily one of the best LS professors. She is clear, organized, and explains concepts well. She also was able to answer questions during lecture in a clear and efficient manner. Lecture was synchronous on Zoom and clickers were done on iClicker Reef (we got free access), but she only taught the first half of the course. Discussions were also synchronous and mandatory for the whole quarter. The Launchpad assignments were similar in length to 7A. One big difference for online vs in-person classes was that the midterms were a combination of multiple choice and free response (throwback to AP Bio) instead of all multiple choice. The first midterm was broken down into 60 pts MC and 30 pts FRQ, but after receiving feedback the second midterm was 70 pts MC and 20 pts FRQ to reduce the time crunch. Exams were open from 4pm to 8pm, and we had an hour to do each portion of the exam. We were given full credit for the final due to protests.

Grading breakdown:
Midterm 1 - 90 pts
Midterm 2 - 90 pts
Final - 180 pts
Discussion - 72 pts
Lecture Participation - 54 pts
Launchpad Activities - 45 pts
PCRQs - 45 pts
PEQs - 45 pts
Total - 621 pts

7C was by far my favorite part of the 7 series due to Professor Khankan's teaching. She's funny and engaging and explained the content really well. She was so considerate of all of us and demonstrated her expertise on the material through her clear and thoughtful lecture slides and clicker questions. The only downside was that since 7C was taught by both Khankan and Cooper, Khankan only ended teaching Week 1 and Week 7-10 so the bulk of the class (all the material on our bodies/organs and stuff) was taught by Cooper, who I didn't mind, but didn't like as much as Khankan.

If you have the chance to take 7C with her, I'd highly recommend it!!

I took this class with RIMA Khankan, which I believe is Rana's sister. Her lectures were incredibly dense and hard to understand. However, she did take our feedbacks half way into the quarter and slowed down + spelled out structures + added more diagrams. I would recommend taking really good notes because there's weekly quizzes. I also recommend focusing on the stuff in the lab manual when you study for her midterm/final. There is absolutely too much details in her notes to memorize for the test. Our exams were closed book and conducted over zoom with TAs monitoring us. I don't think she was the best professor and I definitely stressed about this class. However, her exam was definitely doable. The exams are for the most part NOT as detailed as her lecture, which is why I recommend studying off the lab manual. I never went to office hours, but I heard that its mostly Q+A style. Overall, this course had a very heavy workload. I spent 8-10 hours each week taking notes for her lecture, 3-5 hours in lab, and an additional 1 hour completing the lab manual/making edits after labs. During midterm/final season it would take me at least 20 hours of studying.

Dr. Khankan was definitely one of the best STEM professors I've had at UCLA. She was very clear and concise in her answers and provided a full explanation for each of the mechanisms and feedback loops we needed to learn in 7C. While many may argue that since the LS 7 series is standardized, the professor doesn't really matter. However, I disagree with this notion after taking Dr. Khankan's class because I most likely would not have adequately understood the content if not for her clear explanations and willingness to answer student questions. She was also VERY accommodating during the COVID pandemic and the BLM movement so much that everyone received 100% on the final exam. She also adjusted seamlessly to remote learning so I found it easier to learn online during this class. If you take 7C, take it with Khankan!
