This class is great!!! I found myself learning things that I would quote to my friends and family later, always fun. I actually was sad everytime I had to miss lecture. He is sort of repetitive but it's good because it helps you learn. The one book is interesting and I actually really enjoyed the textbook. The midterm is rediculously easy but don't let that fool you because the final sucks!!! I did all the readings and studied a bunch and there were tons of questions I had no idea what the answer was. He asked minute details and little things that you would never think was important; a dissapointing ending to a really good class.

DO NOT take this class unless you want to memorize every minute detail from lecture notes, the book, the novel, and his online notes. Professor Robinson is cool and everything, and he definitely gets excited about the topic (interesting, and certainly very timely), but the course material is so easy that he makes the midterm and final unbelievably detailed and difficult. If you are looking for an easy class to boost your GPA, this definitely isn't it.

I didn't see what was so great about Robinson. Yeah, he's more interesting than more professors and he's nice... But I didn't see him as a great lecturer. I've had better professors. If you just want a class that's like whatever... take Bioterrorism. It's difficult to get an A considering there are only two grades in the class. His class is just memorizing minute details. If you're good at memorizing, you'll get a good grade.

this is one class everyone should take. it actually has to do with our lives and is something worth while. it is a fabulous g.e. to take even for non-science people. it is extremely interesting and you will find that you learn a lot about what goes on in war. it is fairly easy, not an easy A, but definitely as easy B. it is not as much about biology and science, as it is about terrorism and biological diseases that are so prominent in our society. Professor Robinson is awesome, he is funny and extremely knowledgable at the same time. he is a great guy, the best professor i have had at UCLA. i definitely recommend this class and this professor.

This class was very interesting and I truly learned a lot from studying the notes and Professor Robinson is a very entertaining lecturer.. I only fell asleep a couple of times, so do take the class if u need to fulfill ur life science GE's. But DO NOT let anyone tell you that this class is easy. Take the class for P/NP. I studied hella hella hard for it, but only got a C+. The reason is that his tests (although both multiple choice) ask the most minute and random details and are very tricky, therefore I think it is hard to use those tests to truly test our knowledge. But hey, he's the professor, so just make sure you do your part and study all the web notes and watch all the videos (and if you don't have time to read the book--like myself--then just read the summaries on the web), good luck.

I thought this class was one of the most interesting classes I've taken so far at UCLA. However, it is not as easy as you think. The final screwed me over, and I ended up with a C in the class. Just make sure you do all the readings and study the webnotes. Memorization is the key to success in this class. Prof Robinson is a great teacher though...and he really makes the subject interesting.

Micro 12 is probably my favorite GE science class of all-time.

There were no dense, boring, science books that put you to sleep. Instead, Professor Robinson had us read "The Hot Zone" and "The Cobra Event." Both of which were fun, not to mention scary (in a horror movie sort-of-way), to read.

Personally, I couldn't believe how packed CS 50 for every lecture. I mean, lecture halls with empty seats is something we've grown accustomed to-right? But in all honesty, Professor Robinson was real funny (albeit in a dorky sort-of-way). Although coming to lecture probably wasn't necessary to master most of the material needed for the exams, I'd recommend you to come because Ralph can be pretty hilarious sometimes.

As far as the two exams go, I'd say they are reasonably easy. Still, I have to admit, the fill-in-the-blank part of the exam can be a real meance. I'd say it's probably easy to get at least a B in the course without much effort, but if you want an A you should thoroughly student the webnotes and attend lecture. I took the course P/NP, so I'm not exactly sure if this is really the case, but I'd say Micro 12 is easier than most Life Science GE.

TAKE THIS GE. IT'LL BE TONS OF FUN.

He rocks! I am not a big science person but he is a great lecturer and Micro 12 (or seminar equivalent) are totally interesting just for general information.

Just look at his picture - Good ol' Ralph is a great guy...An hour and 15 minutes goes by relatively fast and the stuff is interesting. I studied, I knew the lecture notes, I went to the lectures...And a few unlucky guesses on the midterm and all of a sudden I had a B-...Well, seeing how the midterm was a 40% chunk of my grade, my chances for an A were, well, thrown out the window.

Let's see, now...Why did I choose Microbio 12? For the A, of course! You think with this low difficulty rating that you can get a good grade, just like I thought. Well, after the final, I was ranked near the 50th percentile, maybe even a little better, and ended up with a B- in the class...So, just to let you know, at least half the class got a B- or lower...This class has easy material that is interesting to learn - but that does not mean an easy A comes with it.

Ralph, Ralph, Ralph. He is a crackup...He is just a big old dork that you have to love. He is very passionate about Bioterrorism...a lover of anthrax, smallpox, and the Black Death...not in any kind of psychotic way. Even finishing with a grade far below my expectations, I still gotta love that Ralph.

I really don't have too much advice. There will be some questions on the tests (where each question is basically a percent of your final grade) that are pretty random. You just won't know some of them. A lucky guess is the difference between an A and a B, and that's what's tricky (and devastatingly unfair) about Ralph. I really do recommend him though, he's a professor everyone should have at least once.

Prof. Robinson is a good lecturer and is quite funny at times. However, do not take the class for granted because you have to read two 400 pg books and there is only a midterm and a final (so every question is pretty important). Also, don't listen to people if they tell you not to go to lecture because on the final there were a number of questions that you would have only been able to get if you had gone. A good class and highly recommended; you'll learn a lot.
