I agree with the previous poster. If you are looking for a straightforward physics class with 2 midterms, a final, and regular-type weekly homework, don't take Wallny's class, as he has so many requirements. If you take honors, you will find the seminar is quite enjoyable. But still, there is much to do for Wallny's classes. Homework is weekly, but for some reason, his homework is more laborious than regular, and there are sorts of items that you have to stretch your mind on, cos they were covered differently in class. I'd never had to do so much work for any other class-- except possibly Chem 153L-- and I have College Honors.

SO MUCH WORKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!! (useless work) he is around to help but you have so much stuff to do that ur always running around from Office hour to discussion to lab and etc. forget about the rest of your classes because he will keep you busy the entire day with all the hard and useless problems we do in class! after taking 6B and 6C, I realized i did more work just for 6A than 6B and 6C combined during summer back to back...DON"T TAKE HIM!!!

Very nice guy, very accommodating. He has a slight accent, but it never gets in the way.

He gives challenging examinations and homework problems. You really need to pay attention in class and go to office hours to understand the material very well. There are SO many concepts to learn in physics 6A, and it is easy to get lost. It will save your life to know how (energy + work + torque + springs) tie together, so please don't hesitate to ask. If you take his honors class, it's an extra 3 challenging homework problems every week.

In honors discussion, we usually do those homework problems together, so that's great. Or, if an exam is approaching and everyone is fine with the homework, you can ask Wallny to reiterate stuff discussed in lecture. In fact, he stresses that understanding what's in lecture comes first.

Absolutely awesome! Thats all there is to say about this man. Take his class and his honros discussion... easyyy.

This was the most enjoyable science class I have taken at UCLA. Coming into physics without any background, this class was far less intimidating than I ever thought. Wallny was such a nice guy, not to mention funny and kinda adorable with his accent. His lectures were slow at times, and sometimes hard to understand, but just go to all the office hours and you'll be fine. Rouzbeh Gerami, was an excellent excellent TA, and I think his office hours helped me more than the lectures. The class itself has 2 midterms, reading quizzes and homework each week. Plus, it has a very generous curve with 25% of the class getting at least an A-. Take this class, and you'll kinda learn to like physics...well, at least for me.

Professor Wallny is one of the nicest persons you'll ever meet at UCLA. He is extremely patient with students and fair in grading. He has tons of office hours, so no one should complain that they couldn't get enough help! Homework is do-able and good for studying for exams. He doesn't try to trick you and makes wonderful review sheets for every exam. He puts in alot of time for his students, so try to take him if you can.
I confess I'm not very good at physics, but I think I would have done alot worse if I did not take Wallny's class.
Get to know him! He's great.

Winter 05
I was actually enrolled in Professor Bena's class, but usually attended Wallny's lectures. Bena is absolutely terrible, but Wallny is a great lecturer. I was also enrolled in Wallny's 6A honors section and had a lot of fun. He explains concepts very well and it is clear he is probably a genius in physics, yet is able to teach such a basic level class so well.
