Absolute garbage professor. Yet another reason why I hate most of the South Campus professors in this school. This speaks to a broader problem in general in UCLA, which is the lack of consistency in the quality of professors as well as little repercussions for having students screwed over to boost the professor's ego or due to negligence. I don't care how nice Princess Confusion is. I cannot stand her incompetency and I think should be fired

I would sum up the entire LS 7 series as Busywork and Self-Learning. I hate how lectures consist entirely of non-stop iclicker questions and 'peer-learning' (where confused students continuously mislead each other) and nothing ever gets explained (or the prof just isn't proficient at explaining anything), plus there's hardly any structure to the material covered. That's my big problem with it, you can only suck it up and read and learn from the textbook by yourself. Tests are all MCQ, which makes everything even more ridiculous, because you literally just use your common sense and questions aren't that hard in the first place. I don't know if other people actually learn anything in this class. If you've taken 7A you know what a pain launchpad is. This class is pretty much identical to 7A, in difficulty too. Labs were busywork, sometimes interesting but mostly they're made to just keep you there for 2 hours. Don't ever skip lab. Try not to skip lecture. ALWAYS do launchpad (with the help of quizlet if needed), even if you're on the brink of death. I don't see why anyone wouldn't get an A then. Also I don't think the professor matters for this class cos it's so standardized.

LS7B is very similar to LS7A in structure and level of difficulty. I took this class with Gilbert, and it might be one of the greatest mistakes I have ever made. Before I begin my review for Gilbert, I want to say that the professor you have doesn't really make a difference in your grade. It is flipped classroom so you learn the material on your own anyway. The professor's job is to consolidate that knowledge. If you attend lectures (for clickers), do well in the labs, stay on top of launchpad, and review for the exams, you will pass. Now, onto Gilbert, she is possibly THE WORST professor I would ever encounter at UCLA. Lectures are filled with clicker questions and her job is to explain the answers. Oftentimes she does provide an adequate explanation to the question or she does not give an explanation at all. When we ask for an explanation, she tells us to "Visit her office hours." Does she think that we will all attend her office hours? Worst of all, she herself gets the answer wrong and she would go on an explain her wrong answer, trying to justify it as a correct answer. The exams are multiple choice, there is no such thing as two correct answers. She is extremely disorganized and it is quite difficult for her to capture the attention of the students. When she is lecturing, she takes long pauses to double check her work which eats up the time we have for the lecture. She spends a lot of time focusing on the front section of the class and she doesn't seem like she is lecturing to the whole class. If you can choose another professor for LS7B, I would advise you to. It might not make a terrible difference in your grade, but you don't want to go to lecture every day feeling like you are wasting your time and is frustrated at her every second of class.

She tries to help the students but she eventually says come to office hour. She unnecessarily tries to explain certain questions for an unreasonably long amount of time which make the class slow down. She was a good person but not the best professor.

Prof Gilbert was a really great person, but not the best in terms of explaining concepts.

This professor, in particular, is a great person, very approachable. HOWEVER, if you had an issue in 7A with grasping the material, not doing well on exams, or feeling like you want to switch majors this class with this professor wouldn't be ideal...
I didn't enjoy 7B with Gilbert. We were always a week behind on lectures because she'd go slow so you're going to have to rely a lot on launchpad... which we all know is terrible. She lets people speak at the beginning of lectures KNOWING that we are behind the rest of the other classes... You have to rely on your PLF which is NOT FAIR. Don't take it with her if you rely on lectures to learn...

Princess would often get confused when answering questions, most of the time the TAs would have to help/correct her. I don't feel like she understood the material much herself so trying to communicate it to the class is even harder. I had to teach myself.

I enjoyed learning the material in this class (in part because it was more interesting but also because it was conceptually more clear/easier than a class like 7A or 7C was to me). But to confirm others' experiences, there have been times when the professor doesn't know the answer to the clicker questions and/or takes long periods of time to explain them, even if it might not be right. I was definitely "physically present, mentally absent" especially for the second half of the quarter and went solely for clicker participation points. She is definitely a really nice and compassionate person, and I'm sure she is qualified to teach the class. But, I also feel she may need to familiarize herself with the specific course material a little more and develop clear and concise explanations for everything.

I had Leon as a T.A., and I'd definitely recommend as he's really chill and will explain things to you if you ask. But speaking to the "labs" and activities we had to do in general, I'd say some of them were honestly pretty useless and time-wasting like the simulations.

And then just generally to do well, like in other classes in the LS7 series, you need to maximize the easy points on Launchpad/clicker/labs, study learning objectives and clicker questions, and don't screw up too much on exams.
