I took this class as a GE and although I thought the subject was a little boring, it wasn't a bad class. He gives you three quizzes (worth ony 15%) instead of a midterm, which is a nice relief during 5th week. The quizzes and final are not difficult at all, he even offers you comprehensive study guides. The real difficulty in the course lies with the essays. After the first essay, our TA informed us that he had given too many high scores, so we'd be getting lower ones the next time around. It seemed as though we were beaten before we'd even started. In addition, although the professor was very knowledgable, the TAs (at least mine) were ill prepared and inexperianced. In any case, I'd recommend the course, but I'd also recommend kissing up to your TA.

Classics 20 has been one of the most interesting GE courses I've ever taken. Fragments of Roman culture and society are evident in our own modern society and so it becomes extremely important for us to admire Roman virtues and note their follies so that such mistakes are never repeated. The only thing that's kind of weird about the class is how almost every lecture ends up relating to or ending up on homosexuality. Got an A-

I love love LOVE this professor. He is so passionate about the material, it makes learning fun. He's a quirky Englishman who makes every lecture enjoyable. Quizes and Final Exam are very straightforward with study guides handed out in section. Papers are more difficult, just make sure you know exactly what your TA is looking for. I highly recommend taking this course. Hands Down!!!

Purchase is VERY passionate about classics, which made me want to learn more. His class is VERY fair. If you at least skim the reading and keep up in lecutre, you will do well. Every quiz and test is VERY straightforward, he tells you exactly what will be on it. Like most north campus classes, your grade is determined by your TA, as he/she grades both of the papers (which aren't too bad) = 45%, the three quizzes (5% each =15%), and the final exam (30%). Final exam was very fair. I reccomend this class....
