Bradley was a pretty decent professor. He is SO, SO CONCERNED about students. I cannot stress that enough. A couple days before the final I got a really bad cold and was absolutely miserable, so I emailed him to ask about a potential extension on the final (something I've never done in my life) and he was SO ACCOMMODATING!!! We had an 8-11am final, and he told me to come in any time before 11 so that I could sleep in and he would make sure I got the full 3 hours. Not only did he do that, but he actually told me that I could just take as long as I wanted to and not to worry about time. He is just the sweetest/best person!
As far as lecturing, he's pretty decent but sometimes will rush through material when he gets pressed for time at the end, and it will often be important stuff that he really expects us to know. Other than that he will happily repeat anything and re-explain anything that wasn't understood. He's like your favorite uncle at Thanksgiving dinner who wants to make sure everyone had enough to eat and is just all around jovial and awesome. I'd recommend taking him if he's ever not co-teaching with Gunsalus...

I had Dr. Bradley for MIMG 101. He's a great professor and gives you plenty of contemporary examples during lecture. Dr. Bradley focuses on major concepts and his test questions are based on experimental design or a hypothetical situation that you must reason through. He answers students' questions on the discussion board and is awesome in office hours. I would recommend waiting til winter quarter to take MIMG 101 because that is when he teaches it.

Although I have not yet finished this course, I can already say that Dr. Bradley truly cares about student learning. He is indeed a personable person and teaches microbiology with enthusiasm and humor. One upside to his lecture style is that you will never fall asleep; Dr. Bradley connects with his students, partly because he has that type of personality himself.

More importantly, he is akin to the needs of students and so he tries to provide as much help as possible during office hours and in class. He literally tells his students what he expects them to know on the exam, contrary to what some others might have said below me.

Dr. Bradley's questions, however, are much more difficult than Dr. Gunsalus' questions. Bradley requires you to understand mechanisms, experiments, and big concepts. He asks a lot of hypothetical "situation" questions so that you can apply your knowledge.

If you attend his office hours, he is always willing to help in any way. I have found that he is increasingly willing to give you hints about what he likes if you ask him. But... as I already said, his questions are not as easy as Gunsalus'.

Anyhow, this is an excellent course, independent of the instructors. I am impressed with the topics they chose to teach because these topics covered a wide span of topics, which caused me to stay interested.

I took MIMG 101 in Spring 2010 with Professor Bradley and Professor Gunsalus. The class was a great introduction to MIMG and has really persuaded me to continue with the major. Professor Bradley was a great lecturer, and made the class extremely entertaining and interesting. I attended 5-6 of the lectures in person all quarter b/c I was extremely busy that quarter and I never fell asleep listening to Bradley. My only complaint is that it is much harder to determine what Bradley wants you to know (in terms of studying for the exam). Gunsalus is much more straightforward and his slides are very sequential within each lecture. Overall however, both Bradley and Gunsalus are great professors and I would highly recommend this course.

One of the best professor at UCLA. MIMG 101 wouldn't be as interesting without Dr. Bradley. He's a really cool guy and he really reaches out to help his students. Must agree with everybody else, his questions are definitely tougher and require more thinking than Gunsalus' but it's definitely do-able as long as you really understand the concepts. Make you sure you understand all the experiments and know how to use them if you're given a case. Take the class, it's a really interesting and fun class

Toxoplasma gondii!

Dr. Bradley is an amazing professor, and as I'm about to graduate, he remains one of the best in the department.

He's more than willing to answer all your questions, and is also extremely nice during office hours (ok, more like all the time).
As the previous poster mentioned, he genuinely cares about your education, and asked me how I felt about the final after I walked out.

However, his test questions are definitely tougher than Gunsalus', as they require thought instead of pure memorization. They will prepare you well for the MIMG major though...especially Virology.

What an awesome professor! He really cares about how you do, and is passionate about his lectures. He is the nicest MIMG professor you will ever meet. Once, during a midterm, a student freaked out and wanted to drop the class. Peter took him outside and talked to him and helped him come to his senses. I defy you to find ANY professor who would do something like that. Take him!
