I wasn't doing well in the behavior portion of the class by Dr. Blumstein but Dr. Fong's ecology section saved my grade for EEB 100. Dr. Fong's lectures are very straight forward and her quizzes directly derive from her lectures. Her quizzes are SO MUCH clear and manageable than the behavior portion of the class. She is a great lecturer and personally, the lecture materials of the ecology portion were so much easier than the behavior portion. There are weekly quizzes with 30 quiz questions (all T/F) and you will have 2h 30m to do it. Just like the behavior section, this class has a final group critique paper where you will have to critique an ecological science paper with your assigned partner. I am not a big fan of group projects so the final group paper was the most stressful part of this class especially since the class was held online. Overall, GREAT PROFESSOR!

Professor Fong is great! The ecology portion of EE Biol 100 is quite interesting and straightforward.

Her exam is pretty straight-forward if you know the lecture slides and take good notes. Try to make sense of everything said in the class rather than memorizing, and go to her office hours for any types of questions. I found them to be pretty useful.

I took Fong Fall 2012. She taught the course with Blumstein and covered the ecology portion of the course.

---Teaching Style---

Fong uses no textbook. She stresses that all you need to know for the exam is covered in lecture, which is very true (we weren't asked questions on our discussion reading, from what I recall).

Lectures are not as entertaining as Blumstein's (no more fun videos to watch). Moreover, if you're the type that doesn't find ecology mildly interesting, then focusing in class will probably be difficult. Bring a recorder or using a recording app on your phone to record lectures to use as references later.

However, Fong does seem to enjoy teaching the material. She does her best to answer all questions...ALTHOUGH she won't answer some questions because they are her "favorite test questions". I think this happened twice in lecture. So hey, if someone asks a question and she refuses to answer it, at least you get a better idea of what kind of questions she likes to ask.

---Her exam---

After reading the reviews here, I was under the impression that her exam was going to be very tricky. You know, one of those exams where you feel like the professor is purposely trying to trick you and mess with you during exam time.

Her exam, material-wise, is very straight forward. Since there is no textbook for this class, your lecture slides and your notes are going to be your everything. My advice to you is to KNOW EVERYTHING on the lecture slides. While this may sound intimidating, her lecture slides are very sparse. Fong has particular definitions for certain terms and concepts and will test your knowledge of them.

The multiple choice section does consist of of "two of the above" and "none of the above" type questions, so be prepared for those. If you memorize all the material on the slides and at least have a firm understanding of your lecture notes, then this section should not be hard. And if an answer seems too "easy" or "obvious", don't dwell on it too much. When Fong says she's not trying to trick you, she's being honest.

The free response section was rather short. I think we had three lecture-based questions (she asks you a question about some concept or experiment from lecture and you just write down the definition or implication of said experiment. Again, this will be easy if you memorize lecture slides and study notes closely) and one "create an experiment" question. To do well on this question, I suggest being very familiar with all the ecological experiments/models covered in class and knowing when it is appropriate to apply each one.

And I believe our last section was a matching section, with terms on one column and definitions on the other. Again, this portion will be easy if you memorize the slides.

Let me start out by saying that she a good lecturer and you probably will not have any complaints until you take her test. When I walked out of her test I "knew" I did really well and missed three questions maybe. However, she is very picky about her essay questions. Even after looking at my answers and the answer key, I still agree with my answers she marked wrong. Her questions are so distorted and vague, but she expects answers that exactly match her thoughts (even though many answers suffice her written question). Regarding regrades, out of all the students that submitted one, she did not award any extra points, but took points away from one student's test. Avoid her if possible. After taking all the chem series and having Nelson for 153A, all the LS series, and all the physics 6 classes, her test was by far the worst. My grade did not justify the information I mastered.

She is great. honestly study everything she gives you. Her exams are very very very easy if you study all her material. Her tests are not tricky at all. She was one of my favorite professors. RECOMMEND. She gives you true and false, short answer, one essay, and some multiple choice. she also encourages her students to give some exam questions which was pretty cool.
