Prof Geary is AWESOME! I cannot believe what the last reviewer wrote! His class was interesting and highly informative. He lets his students choose what will be on the midterm and final (c'mon now, how many professors are cool enough to do that!). He posted last year's midterm on the class website, too. He does not give out multiple choice tests even though they would be much easier for him to grade because he believes they do not prepare and/or benefit his students for the real world. This prof actually cares about his students and is always available to answer questions after class and in office hours. His was my favorite class of fall quarter. A warning though: if you are the type to sit in back and do not like to participate in lecture than geary's class is not for you because he does WANT but does NOT require you to make insightful comments about the primary sources once a week. Your grade may be affected if you do not speak up during his classes. His tests are more than fair and OH MY GOD, YES, he DOES expect you to have an idea about which half of a century this person lived or that battle was fought, but is there any reason why he should not expect this of his students? This is a HISTORY course after all, folks. History does REQUIRE dates. His class is not an "easy A" but it is definitely possible to get an "A" if you are willing to do some work. Bottom Line: SLACKERS beware of Geary, HARD WORKING STUDENTS, TAKE HIM.
