Professor Geary gets right to it right when lecture starts, and he really knows his stuff! He makes things a lot more interesting than they could be. His lectures are very organized, too. He posts outlines of them online, but you should need to go to lecture to fill everything in. The class might seem easy, but because everything is essay format, you need to study, study, study... probably your notes more than anything else. Michael Benson is a cool TA; just don't think that you can get by making random stuff up. (TA's grade everything in this class.) His TA sessions are pretty unorganized, but if you participate and ask questions, he's definitely knowledgeable about approaching things thematically, which is basically how the whole course works, anyway.

Prof. Geary is a very learned man. he may come off as too intense, but the truth of the matter is, is that he takes his profession very seriously. Honestly, I appreciated the fact that he was hard on me. I think he is one of the best in the business (medieval history) and you can utilize that to your advantage if you are into Medieval history. I took him for the history of memory 97D course thinking it was going to be medieval history, but the department pulled a fast one and changed the subject. The material was extremely difficult as it was bordering on meta-history instead of your regular history course. However, Prof.Geary helped us understand the main points of the subject. He grades very generously, and I assume it was because of the course material. We did one Book Review, 1 historiographical paper ( this was the hardest paper I ever had to write in my LIFE) and a very easy research prospectus. There is no way in hell you can fail this class if you put some effort. I ended up with a B+, but i dont care. I appreciated the constructive critcism that Prof.Geary pointed out to me.
