I don't know my grade in this class yet, but I have so much to say. My last psychology course in undergrad and I absolutely hated it. It would've been fine if this professor was actually helpful, but not only did she give feedback EXTREMELY late (the day the final was due), but also kept approving/undermining our project. Constant back and forth so our project turned out to be a complete bust. She also gave us advice that we shouldn't have implemented because it sort of ruined our design. I learned how to manage a project and how difficult it is to design an experiment — yes, that was cool — but I'm so very disappointed with the class.

Worst professor I have ever had, genuinely. Her feedback makes no sense and she curves grades to match the previous class curve, so you have no idea if your A is going to remain an A on your transcript. Avoid this professor if you can!

Professor Cheng definitely cares about her students and wants to make sure we're prepared and capable of completing the final project, but sometimes her advice/insights/notes on these projects are difficult to understand. My group initially thought we had a solid experiment idea and Professor Cheng approved it, then later on she discouraged us from our method and tried to steer our project in a different direction, so it would've been nice to have clearer expectations before committing to a study design. The nice aspect of this class is that you're given a lot of freedom to brainstorm experiment ideas and conduct your own study (within the limitations of the class), and the workload isn't too bad as long as your group splits the work equally. There's also no exams! Overall, it's a decent class and a good introduction to the experimental process

I usually don't write reviews but I felt compelled to write one for Prof Cheng because I was SUPER nervous going into this class as I'm a non-foreign guy and had some bad experiences with certain accents in the past. But her accent did not bother me at all. I've had some professors with bad accents and Cheng's is simply fine, I never once had to think about what she was saying. She is also SO caring about her students, she is probably the most engaging professor I've had at UCLA so far. Even though this class was mentally challenging, it really is worth it, especially if you want to genuinely improve on your experimental knowledge. She focuses more on what your interested in and improving that than forcing her own knowledge and a textbook down your throat. 10/10 recommend!!

I took Professor Cheng for Psych 121. Yes, she can be hard to understand at times. Yes, sometimes she speaks in terms where words feel like they're flying over your head. BUT, she is a sweetheart. She tries her best to help her students and when you do not understand something or has a question all you have to do is ask her and she'll try to help. Professor Cheng was very hands on and helpful with our experiment. I didn't think I would like the class very much at first but I ended up really enjoying myself and ended up with an A in the class.

The class itself isn't all that difficult if you are willing to put in the time and effort in your papers and experiment. Professor Cheng makes it clear that she's not looking for ground breaking research but just that we understand the concepts of experimental research in regards to cognitive behavior.

If you're a student willing to learn and have just a little bit of determination to do well, definitely do not avoid this class with Professor Cheng. She's great
