This class was very clear and fun, even over Zoom. Although Verducci herself didn't lecture, you watch lecture videos of another professor who has done screenplays and has experience in the industry. The films you watch and get quizzed on are interesting, and the quizzes ask for relevant info. To be honest, if you only had time to skim before a quiz you'd still be good - just turn on the transcript of the lecture and search for keywords. The quizzes never asked about the films, just the readings, so you honestly just need to know the gist about them just for the discussion posts.

I absolutely LOVED this class! Professor Verducci is the nicest person and she is incredibly helpful. I had to take this class asynchronously because of Covid, but she was always available to meet over Zoom, which was super helpful. The class itself has a decent amount of work (lectures, movies to watch, scripts to read, discussion posts, quizzes, readings, all while starting your screenplay), BUT it's all highly entertaining and interesting stuff. I would recommend ordering the books, especially if you are looking to go into screenwriting, they are very helpful. I really enjoyed getting to plan out a whole screenplay, and my TA was so supportive and helpful throughout the process. Even if you are not looking to go into screenwriting, this class could be highly beneficial for those looking to go into movie-making, acting, or even just those who need a creative outlet. It seriously is just so much fun and I would recommend it to anyone!

Definitely take this class if you can. You literally just watch movies, read a few articles a week, and get to write your own screenplay. Yes, it is an easy A and you learn the elements of a screenplay and the fundamentals of a story.

She was very kind and helpful, I loved taking this class and definitely learned a lot.

The class was pretty easy and fun. She is engaging but beware she will force participation so be ready to actually do the little in class assignments and share them. Also she has a very strict attendance policy which was a pain considering you didn't really have to pay attention in lecture to do well. The lectures were sometimes a lot of fun when we did class activities like writing a movie or scene together. The in-class quizzes were easy if you read the textbook, watched/read the assigned films, and had some basic intuition for things like narratives and stuff. Your TA grades all your assignments and it's not based on how "good" it is but rather how you adhere to the concepts taught in class, which was nice. One thing that did bother me was that she did not trigger warning any of the clips she played, some of which included pretty gruesome violence/gore and police brutality (during which one girl had to leave the room). A little consideration goes a long way for things like this.

This class was fantastic. Consisted of 7 films we had to watch/read the script of throughout the quarter. They were "Legally Blonde, Whiplash, Winter's Bone, Ladybird, Moonlight, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and Get Out." I don't know if these will change in the future but I am sure they will. The films were part of the quiz content we had to know and used to help guide the lectures. In lectures however, numerous clips of many, many other films were shown to help illustrate certain points made in slides. The grading consisted of in class quizzes, a treatment, a script, and participation. The 4 quizzes were very straightforward. They were based on lecture slide material and content from the films that had to be watched/read. All MC, some had short answer questions but they weren't bad at all. There is no final or midterm in this course. The "Main" assignments that you have are to create your own first 10 pages of a script, and a treatment for your film, and you have all quarter to do it (about half the quarter for the treatment). The TA's and Professor Verducci really help guide you through this process and it is a beginning level screenwriting course so grading is very forgiving. The treatment is a 3 page act by act summary of how your film will play out, but the script assignment only requires the first 10 pages, so the exposition. You can really get creative and bring to life any idea for a film you have ever had in your life and it's actually pretty cool! Lectures were very fun to go to, but one thing that bothered me a little was that she does not allow cellphones in lecture and makes sure her TA's watch like hawks so nobody is on their phone; of course I still used my phone but that was a little annoying. It was cool to see so many scenes of films I love being shown and discussed in class and I genuinely learned a lot more about films and scripts in this course. Professor Verducci really knows what she is talking about, she has worked for numerous film companies overlooking story structure and decision making, including Pixar! She is super sweet and willing to see anyone during her office hours and help anyone who needs it. One of the nicest professors I have ever had! Definitely take this course, it will not get in the wya of your other courses and it is extremely interesting and fun , and you will come out feeling very accomplished as you will have actually written a script by the time the class is over!

An interesting, straightforward class. Show up, listen, apply the material learned in lecture directly to your assignments, and you'll do fine. Lecture and discussions were engaging. Attendance and participation are required.

Fun, interesting class, learned a lot about screenwriting. Prof. Verducci was very nice and I always really enjoyed going to class.

Participation was mandatory, had to sign in at the end of every class. Grade consisted of 4 quizzes (just need to pay attention to what she says in class, review the slides), 1 treatment outlining the plot of your story, and the first 10 pages of your screenplay.
