I don't think the ratings of Kasliwal are very fair. Compared to the other wacked out Econ professors I've had, he's really not bad. If you've taken previous econ classes at UCLA, you know by now the textbook is never used. Don't bother buying the book. He makes you but his own notes, which is only 20 bucks. (The textbook is 120.) The notes is basically everything that will be covered in class. It also includes some previous exams and practice questions. Do them! Very useful since he puts some of the exact same ones on finals and midterms. Office hours are okay. He makes you feel stupid but in general just ask away. Ignore his condescending tone. This class was way easy compared to my econ 11 and 101 class. It's definately a reasonable class, take it!
I believe that previous reviews on him on are a little too harsh. He may be a bit ambigous, however, if the subject had been studied throughly by the student, there should be a decent understanding of the material. I did not need to kiss his ass like some people claim that they must. I did do one thing though; attended all his lectures. Overall, he is a nice teacher whose intentions, I believe, are good.
Just took him for 102. What everyone has said here so far is pretty much on the mark, so you can guess that I'm gonna say don't take him if you can avoid it. But if you can't, do yourself a favor and save your money and don't buy the book.
His lectures, tests, quizzes and all other outside interaction were very poorly conducted. The manner in which he chose to deliniate his information was vague and confusing as his answers differed with each interaction.
