Take this class!!! Prof. Bailis is amazing -- so sweet, thoughtful, and class is always enjoyable. Pretty much a guaranteed A, but the class is interesting and you learn a lot about what it's like to be a teacher. Highly recommend.
There's a group project, it's not a huge deal. Just make sure you get reliable team members!
I took this class in the summer and honestly wish it was offered with Professor Pam during the regular quarters! I would say this class is easy, but there are many short assignments to keep up with! Each class session is super engaging and Professor Pam does try to get the class to actually get to know each other - which I think is super special. Every morning Professor Pam reads us "jokes" of the day from LA Times that children send in. There aren't any exams. Like I mentioned, there are "short" assignments that are fairly easy. They are graded in a "check" or "check plus" form! If you don't get a "check plus" the first time then you have a week to correct your assignment and re-submit it so that you can get a check plus! Also, there was no "final". Rather, there was a group paper we had to submit (ranging from 7-12) pages (SHE DOESN'T LIKE ENFORCING NUMBER OF PAGES OR NUMBER OF WORDS FYI). The paper is honestly short for a group paper. In class, you won't present the paper but instead will come up with an activity so that the rest of the class has an understanding or an idea of what your paper was about. (It was very fun!) I would for sure take another course with Professor Pam if possible! WILL NOT REGRET! PROMISE.
I love Pam! She's a great professor teaching a great subject. If you ever doubted the power of teachers, take her and she'll change your mind. She plans fun activities and class and she is the most understanding professor I have ever met. Every professor should take lessons from her on how to teach. There are tons of assignments, but none too hard to handle. She doesn't give grades per se, but rather she stick to checks and check plusses (+). Stay on top of your work and you're guaranteed a good grade and a fantastic time in her class!!
