I took this class in Spring 2017 and didn't have the opportunity to leave a review at the time since he didn't have a BruinWalk page, but I know he's still been consistently teaching Math 31B and probably a few other classes, so I thought I'd leave this here.

The first thing you'll probably notice is his accent - he's a pretty cool Australian guy if I recall correctly. He didn't Bruincast when I took the class but few math professors do, but he does post his lecture notes that he goes over online. Sometimes he would make a simple mistake and have trouble explaining a concept, but overall he was an effective, engaging, and interesting lecturer who didn't over-complicate the concepts although it was often difficult to motivate myself to go to an 8 AM.

Like many math classes, he had a generous grading scheme with two options and he would take the best of the two.
Option 1:
10% 5 best homework/quizzes (3 homeworks, 4 short quizzes)
40% Both midterms count for 20% each
50% Final Exam

Option 2
10% Homework/quizzes (same as Option 1)
30% Best midterm (drop your worst midterm)
60% Final exam

His grading schemes are consistent with the math department, which doesn't allow for very many A's (maximum 30%), but since people tend to do poorly on the exams, everyone was actually curved up.

Average Exam 1: ~55% (~22/40)
Average Exam 2: ~62% (~25/40)
Average Final Exam: ~67% (40/60)

His final exam was much more straightforward than the midterms and I believe he made a genuine attempt to adjust the difficulty after our poor performance on the first two exams. He also went in depth over difficult example problems in class, as well as in office hours, that ended up on the exam, so I was personally surprised that the average final exam score wasn't over 70%. He's definitely fair and a decent guy to take the class from as he takes feedback and is not mean/harsh. He tries to be sympathetic although there isn't much he can do about grades and everyone is anxious about them.

I really liked Professor White. I'm terrible at Calculus and despise it as a subject but he made it very bearable. His tests were tough but got easier throughout the quarter. Doing lots of practice problems from the textbook will be extremely helpful for doing decently on the exams. He was funny, engaging, and had an australian accent.
