Dr. Kraft is an excellent professor, he is such an expert on plant ecology and his passion made learning the material easy. His lectures are very detailed but always explains it in a way that is easy to remember/ learn. Exam questions come off his lecture outlines and discussion articles; it is very easy to do well if you study those! Definitely take this class if you have any interest in plants and/or ecology!

Professor Kraft is super sweet and very willing to explain the concepts and help students succeed. Clickers are required for lecture and they were not recorded, but the content is generally very clear and coherent. Section attendance was also required. The midterm and final were very fair, and there were some short papers and assignments to be completed throughout the quarter. Overall, this is a very interesting class to learn about plant ecology.

Nathan is one of the best EEB professors out there. Very organized, clear, lets you know what you need to know and offers resources for them. With a bit of work, you should be looking at an A. Definitely would recommend this class.

This has been one of my favorite EEB classes! My interest in it wasn't high going into the class truthfully, but Dr. Kraft definitely made the content more interesting and told us exactly what would be fair game on the exams at the end of every lecture. That allowed me to truly enjoy the class. He's easily accessible at office hours and great to talk to! Would definitely take again

Loved this class! You might not think plants are interesting, but Nathan does a great job of focusing on the ecological consequences of the concepts rather than the boring details. Absolutely changed how I think of plants and I think this is a must-take class for any ecology-oriented major. His tests are very fair and he is extremely organized, each week giving a review sheet of those lectures along with practice questions. Nathan shines past the mediocrity of this department, so go ahead and take this class.

Dr. Kraft is very knowledgeable on plants. He gave the majority of lectures with the TAs giving a couple. In my quarter the class was worth 430 points:
Clickers 36
Quiz 30
Midterm 90
Final 130
Discussion 90
Writing assignments 50
MyUCLA Evaluation 4
The exams all had a similar format: definitions, conceptual questions, and (for midterm and final) quantitative problems. The study guides he provided for each lecture contained the terms and sample study questions which were very useful. Overall, the class was quite doable especially if you go over the terms, sample questions, and quantitative discussion worksheets.

Professor Kraft, as well as the TA's, made this class extremely interesting and one of the best classes I have taken thus far at UCLA. Kraft was extremely knowledgeable in the topic of Plant Ecology, and the lectures were engaging and useful. I learned a lot from this class, and will probably remember the majority of the class for years to come. If you are interested in PLANTS or BOTANY at all, please take this class!! I can't express how thankful I am to professor Kraft or the TA's for how well this class went for me, and I am incredibly thankful for the things/topics I have learned from this class!! The majority of the exam questions came from the handouts the professor gives before the lectures, and the essays were graded fairly if you understood the material! i would definitely recommend the class to anyone interested in plants!!

I wasn't super interested in plants going in but I really like ecology so I was somewhat excited for this class. The first half of the class up to the midterm is pretty straightforward in terms of content. I found the latter half of the class to be a little more confusing. The exams were very fair and he gave good indication on what would be tested on the lecture outlines. Exams are a mixture of terms, short answer, long answer, quantitative problems. I think almost all of the long answer questions on the final could have been found on one of the lecture outlines. Outside of class, professor Kraft was extremely kind and helpful in clarifying ideas. He was also willing to help with the writing assignments. My best advice would be to go over the study questions on each of the lecture outlines and come up with sample answers and ask the professor or TAs if you don't know how you would answer the questions. While this class is mostly straightforward, it may be easy to lose points and not do well. A couple points here and there on discussion assignments and writing assignments could add up.

I really enjoyed taking this class with Professor Kraft. Unlike a few other professors, he appeared to care a lot about whether students were understanding the material. Aside from his detailed lectures, he'd have review sessions at the beginning of each week going over previous info and answering student's questions. Also, he'd have students submit answers to questionnaires each week to get feedback on the class. Overall, he seemed to really care about our online learning experience, which was really nice to see. Some downsides to this class is that some lectures can be too long or time consuming. Same goes for the midterm and final. Still, if you pull through, you can do well as long as you're willing to put in the work.
