Professor Tung is by far one of the most engaging lecturers I've ever had. He streamed his lectures on YouTube during the quarter that I had him (remote learning due to COVID 19), had an awesome intro, and made super cool physics demonstration videos. Despite his lectures being so entertaining, easy-to-follow, and engaging, Professor Tung also maintains such a high level of professionalism, and it's clear that he puts a lot of thought and preparation into the content that he puts out for his students. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend taking his course if you're planning on taking Physics 1A.
Also, one piece of advice that I have is to make sure you don't wait till the last minute to do the Mastering Physics homework (if Professor Tung still continues to use Mastering Physics), which is mainly the reason why I didn't earn an A in this course. It's helpful practice but it's incredibly time-consuming.
Tung is easily one of the best professors I've had in my time here. I didn't have that great an experience with physics in high school so I was unsure of what to expect in 5A, but Tung immediately dissolved any hesitations.
He makes lectures very engaging with super interesting demos and conveys the information in such a way that it's very easy to grasp. Like most physics classes should be, he gives you all the information you need to be able to solve any kind of problem, which does, admittedly, make his tests harder because he gives problems that you've never seen before and makes you work through them.
I'm not sure if the format of the class will stay the same in the regular school year (since I took it in Summer) but he has 4 midterms over the course of the 6 weeks each testing only the week's material (not cumulative). Your grade is also made up of homework problems through MasteringPhysics as well as lab (which was simultaneously fun and tedious). I would definitely take a class with Tung again!
I took both Physics 1 and 2 in high school and I think that if you did well in those, you will do well in this class. As such, the quality of teaching didn't really matter so much for me, but in my opinion, Professor Tung is a fantastic teacher and person whose lectures are both clear and engaging. I appreciate his way of approaching physics and I liked the way he structured his class by having four midterms (all non-cumulative) and no final.
I would recommend taking this with him!
