If you take Soc 113, do not take it with her...I was expecting to learn statistical concepts and she did none of that other than reading definitions from the already incomprehensible textbook from her slides. I sometimes even doubt if she understands what she's talking about. Also she lets you calculate every problem by hand rather than teaching more about using softwares to solve statistical problems, which means while she's not enhancing statistical understandings, she's not teaching much statistical tools either...A real disappointment for me...Trust me, you could learn more from a very basic introductory stats class than in this class..

The professor was super sweet and in my opinion this class was a breeze! I put in minimal work and got high A's on both the midterm and final. I recommend you take this class with her! She was also really understanding and prepped us well for the exams.

She seems really nice and encouraging and can get a feel for the class's confidence in the material. It's probably also the class material but her lectures seem oddly specific yet unhelpful. She's not very clear how in depth we need to understand the formulas/calculations for the exams. The software sections of the homework aren't hard but are pretty irrelevant. They made the exams easy, the study guides covered way more and seemed harder. I think it would have been a lot better if she was more transparent about expectations and it'd be a lot less stressful and more manageable.

If you’ve taken AP Stats in high school this class is basically just review. There’s only 6 homework assignments (which take like 30 min to an hour each) and a midterm and final (both were open notes but timed) and I just studied her review videos and did very well. I personally did not read the book, I just went through the slides she posted and took notes and that was enough. If you’ve never taken a stats class before I would imagine this class would be a bit difficult but not impossible. I was scared by the reviews for this class but it was one of my easiest courses I had.

Fairly straightforward Stats class. You are evaluated on your understanding of in-lecture material; the textbooks helps add on explanations, but isn't really relevant.

There were 6 pretty straightforward hw assignments, mostly graded for completion.
Labs were not really necessary...
Don't be scared by the study guides.
The midterms and final do not cover nearly as much that's on them- the hw and in-class practice problems are a better indicator of what you'll be tested on.

On small issue is that the course goes from 0 to 100 real quick.. chi square analysis and the later material was much more difficult than probability, so don't underestimate the later material!

Overall, course is straightforward and easy to self-study.
Professor was helpful and slides well-done!

Let me preface this by saying that Professor Miric is so extremely sweet and eager to help, one of the most approachable professors I've ever met. That being said, however, I found the class to be quite difficult to get through because lectures were rather unclear and disorganized, in my opinion. I would rewind multiple times and still not understand what she is trying to say. The slides would also have a lot of typos.

I will also say though, that the class can still be manageable if you do not understand everything in lecture. I was pretty much confused the whole time but I focused on trying to understand the practice problems that she sends out before the exam, since that will be what she tests on. It was still worrying though, to not feel like I understood what she was explaining in lectures.

In conclusion, I would really only recommend taking this course with this professor if you already have a strong foundation in statistics. It will probably be a better experience if you do.
