I just had to write a review for this class and professor. Stay away if you came to UCLA to get quality education and value your GPA for the long run. Professor Pirnazar is very disorganized and forgetful. We had to wait 10 minutes for her to set up class and remember key announcements regarding assignments and grades. My grade literally suffered because she forgot what she told me about an assignment in private and then swore that we never had that conversation. She also expresses a lot of her own personal views throughout lecture which, at times, exposes her extreme bias approach to Iranian history. Her published works are also of low quality ... I was left unconvinced of many key arguments regarding Iranian Jewish history. I pretty much memorized through the exam material. I would have received an A if it was not for her forgetfulness. I saw a rather positive review for this professor and course ... I think it was left by somebody who felt bad for her and want to keep the interesting course topic alive. Everyday lecture consisted of students talking about their frustrations regarding her grading clarity and disorganization.
I took Professor Pirnazar's class this past Winter 2020. This was one of my favorite classes I have ever taken at UCLA. Professor Pirnazar goes through the history of the Iranian Jews with clarity and patience. She always takes time to answer questions and is always diligent while teaching her content. She uses Powerpoint slides to present her lectures and they are super clear and easy to follow. If you are ever confused about something she is super sweet about answering questions during the lecture.
The class consists of an in class written midterm, final, weekly homework assignments which are just a brief summary of the weekly readings and participation points. You can find the textbooks on reserve at Powell.
Overall I highly recommend this class! I would 100% take it again if I could!
