He's a decent professor. Very helpful and nice. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO HIS REVIEW SESSION or at least do his review problems he posts online as the midterms and finals have almost the exact same problems. I cannot stress that enough. He also takes problem from the homework so if you can solve the homework and his extra problems you should be fine. His tests are fairly easy and almost all problems are computational which is very nice. Would recommend him again if you want a fairly easy 1B teacher.
El Alaoui is one of the nicest professors I can think of. His Office Hours where generally empty, so definitely take advantage of them because he's super nice and will try his best to explain the concepts.
That being said, I agree with most of the reviews, as someone who may not know too much mechanics or isn't too confident with their ability in physics then he's not the best. He goes over his slides and just does a bunch of examples in class to show you how to do a problem.
Expect one midterm to be relatively difficult (generally 60% average) but the other to be decent (generally 80% average). GO TO HIS REVIEW SESSIONS because he puts a couple of problems from the review session into the midterms. Also his final may include some questions you do for his homework, so its not too bad.
In conclusion, he's a great guy, decent lecturer and relatively easy class in my opinion.
Mostafa is a homie!!! I'll break the class down into Lectures, Homeworks, and Exams.
Lectures: 8am lecture for me. Honestly, he's not the best lecturer. He's not super entertaining and he just copies slides or notes onto the board, but he has a cool accent, likes to say "Do the numbers", but will always try to answer each and every question that gets asked. He doesn't really teach you much, but rather just does a ton of practice examples. He makes a couple of arithmetic errors, but they're really not that bad. Is lecture worth going to? Not if you're planning to learn anything.
Homeworks: All mastering physics. Get a solutions manual if you need help, but overall pretty easy.
Exams: Exams are not too bad. He'll always put at least 2-3 questions (that's up to 50% of your midterm) from lecture, homework, or review session. And questions he asks are all of similar caliber difficulty for stuff he teaches anyways. So go to these things or ask around, and you should be ok.
Overall, if you have a decent foundation in physics from high school, take this guy and you'll have a blast breezing through physics. If you're not that good at physics, hit the textbook or hit up another professor. But trust me, his exams are definitely much easier than anyone else's.
Can't recommend taking him. His exams may not be that hard. But the class is not curved, which makes it harder to get an A. His accent is very strong, so most time you don't understand him. Don't even mention his lecture is not engaging at all. Even take Corbin or somebody. Very bad and stupid Professor.
So stupid. Very easy questions, just don't have time to look at them during exam. I just don't understand why the professor encourages students not to think and deeply understand the logic behind. Why I said those? Because you simply don't have time to think
El aloui is literally the most kind, straightforward and approachable teacher. I messed up on the first midterm and he straight up told me he wouldn’t let me fail and we could drop it together. His midterms are only 4 problems and he takes them out of the midterm review for the most part. He posts all the answers to his lectures right before the midterm and said the only reason he didn’t do it weeks before was because people wouldn’t come and he’d be sad which I couldn’t even ask him further about because wow valid and also adorable. Take his class!!
So so kind and genuinely cares about his students. A lot of material in the class and it can be a little boring but definitely worth it for how consistent and well written his notes are. They’re straightforward, easy to follow, and he’s super approachable and actively reaches out to students. His midterms are all fair as well as the final and are drawn straight from the midterm review and exams. Would highly recommend him!
Can't say much about Mostafa's lectures as I attended like 3, but his exams are pretty easy which is what really matters. Problems are largely ripped straight out of lecture practice and sometimes homework (only the easy homework problems though.) He also doesn't seem to have issues answering questions during exams - he reexplained the concepts for one problem on the final when I just asked about wording.
I will say that he seems to have left one chapter uncovered by the end, but honestly I doubt you're going to care in the long run seeing how this is a class for life science majors.
In short, take Mostafa for the GPA boost and move on, but don't skimp on studying just because the exam problems are rehashes.
Dr. El Alaoui is simply a terrible lecturer so don't take him unless you're willing to teach yourself all the material. I managed to get 98%s on both midterms.... after spending 10+ hours doing all the available practice problems before each exam. His exams all drew problems directly from the homework and lecture examples, but that didn't really help because it was pretty much guaranteed that I wouldn't understand what he was doing in lecture and I would have to go through the textbook and online tutorials to learn how to do them myself. When we tried to ask clarifying questions he would eventually cut us off, saying we were taking too much time. I don't think it's too hard to get a good grade if you're willing to put in the effort, but you will be dragging yourself through the class completely on your own. The labs are also bullshit as always, and Mostafa got so behind in lecture that you would have to do the pre-labs with literally no knowledge of the material. Hell, we skipped the complete last chapter of material entirely. I would recommend taking literally any other professor unless you know all the course content or have a lot of time to spare. The one positive is that he gives formula sheets with his exams.
