Lectures using slides are pretty bad.
Lectures on chalkboard are pretty good.
The class is pretty chill, homework is due bi-weekly, and on average 5-10 hours per homework for me. Exams are computationally heavy, which can be unexpected the first time but it's fine once you know what to expect (and midterm can be completely reweighted by the final, which is helpful, so it's highly recommended to take the midterm if you can). The professor is new and this is his first time teaching the course, so it was a little bit somewhat disorganized, but the professor knows what his doing and is very helpful and accessible through email. Overall I would recommend enrolling in this course, just make sure to do more exercise and be familiar with the computations, as these are not extensively covered in the homework exercises.
While there are some frustrations towards the organization of the course, Professor Zhou did a good job overall. The class itself is very challenging, but he ended up curving leniently. Do not slack off in the course as the exams are actually very hard.
This course has the potential to be very interesting, but the professor didn't convey that to me. He just went through the motions (definition, theorem, proof, repeat) without telling us the bigger picture or why we were doing what we were doing. The best part of the class was the previous professor's slides and HW assignments, which were very well made.
Professor Zhou is on the easier side of the 135 instructors. He basically just follows the textbook. His lectures are very clear, which make things much easier to understand. If you have a busy quarter and need to take some less serious classes to balance out, take this one!
