This class is probably my favorite class of all time. Each week you watch one of Miyazaki’s films for homework and then you discuss it during class. The movies are all amazing, of course, and Morris is probably one of the most engaging professors ever. He comes up with really good insights about the movies, the music behind the movies, and the ideas and he craftily weaves in music history with a few examples of classical music and movie techniques with examples of movie clips. Sometimes he’ll even play something on the piano. He encourages students to participate and bring their insights so it’s very engaging. He’s never boring and he says a lot of absolutely hilarious things and I never wanted that class to end. There is one final project but you have a lot of freedom to be creative. Definitely take this glass if you love Ghibli and Miyazaki!

He is such a wonderful speaker! Fiat Lux lectures were always interesting. They were not always about the movie itself, and he incorporated other musical aspects. Homework was to just watch the movie, and the final project was to "do something". Very enjoyable and a nice break from other classes.
