Run as far away from this professor as you can. Take it with Khankan/Esdin or something.
There is such a gap between the difficulty of clicker questions/class material and the exam. There is absolutely nothing I get out of lecture, to be honest. He just reads from the slides. And clicker questions rarely get explained in depth. He just says “okay?” and moves on. Do not be fooled by the previous Bruinwalk reviews. I, as well as many others, were conned into taking this class with him during session A.
And extra credit? Consider that gone. In previous quarters, a midterm wrapper quiz was given after each midterm to earn some extra points, as well as LA reviews and such. We had to CONVINCE this professor to do even the wrapper quizzes, probably because he saw how terrible everyone did on the exams and didn’t want to look bad.
The wording of the midterms was so vague and broad, I found myself saying “fuck it” with half of the questions. Can’t wait to see how terrible the final is.
Professor Gutierrez was well versed on the information and often presented in a way that students could understand. Sometimes it was a little rough to ask him questions because he would answer in an abrasive way, sometimes even in lecture in front of students. It was nice that he used Campuswire because this allowed other students to help each other. Note, I took this class during COVID. Launchpad was always a little much but this is with all of the 7 series. Sometimes his tests were a little unclear, but usually they were quite doable. They would be on CCLE and there would be a two hour time limit once you started them. There was really no extra credit in this class so be wary of that. Your discussion section can be really good, especially if you have a good TA. I would recommend Zac if he is still TAing, but on a side note, the gradescope worksheets are not the most interactive.
