This was the best math class (and definitely one of the best classes overall) I've ever taken. Professor Willis is extremely focused on delivering his lectures in a way that is engaging and comprehensible to students. He disregards notions of how math "should" be taught and instead opts for an intuitive way to explain tough concepts. I wish I could take all of my math classes with Willis.
32B is probably the hardest class I've taken at UCLA so far, but Willis makes it as easy as can be. His lectures are engaging and easy to follow, and his explanations are amazing. The midterms are pretty similar in difficulty and kind to the homework. Plus, we had Bruincast. Take him if you can!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Professor Willis is engaging, funny, clear and incredibly helpful. As someone who struggled with multivar (32A) last quarter I was really nervous about taking this class as many say it's the hardest math LD. However, Willis made all the concepts so simple and clear. His tests can be difficult, but are fair if you pay attention in lectures and truly think about the material in the way he frames it. If you understand the material well, you really appreciate the way he writes his test questions and the eye he has for capturing the most important aspects of the 32B concepts. Even during my worst weeks, I never wanted to skip a lecture (although all of them are bruincasted!!!). Also go to his office hours! I went after I bombed the first midterm LMAO and they helped so much with test preparation and homework. I wish he taught every math class I needed to take. Definitely take ANY math class this man is teaching!
One of the best professors I will probably ever have. Willis is super articulate and is a very visual teacher (something that's important for this class). He's also super funny and interesting in office hours. I'm so glad I had him as a math teacher, would 100% recommend to anyone.
It wouldn't let me write a review for 31A but I took 31A over fall Q and wow i love Dr. Willis. He's such a great lecturer, his explanations are super clear and concise. The homework load is extremely manageable and the midterm wasn't bad at all. The only thing was that the final was pretty challenging but otherwise great experience.
Honestly this was probably the best math class I've ever taken. Willis explained everything so thoroughly and made these complex topics so much easier to understand--it's honestly like having a good friend explain things to you. He was very approachable and helpful during lecture and in office hours. His lectures were engaging and I really enjoyed his humor (often dry). I highly recommend going to office hours because I always felt like I learned a lot from them and it really helped nail down the material for the exams. Homework was not tedious at all and was graded fairly. Midterms and Final were really straightforward; I think the hardest part about them was timing. I feel like I learned everything I could in this course, and highly recommend.
One of the best math professors I've ever had. He was very straightforward and always tried to reformat explanations if someone found it unclear. Just make sure you study accordingly and do the practice exams. Your grade is just 10% homework, 25% for 2 midterms, and 40% final. There are never many tricks on the exams and they're written very fair so overall the class was a dub and you should definitely take him if you can.
I truly loved taking this class with Professor Willis. He is always willing to help and take the time explain the concept (in lecture and office hours). He is a very passionate mathematician which makes his office hours very interesting. I HIGHLY recommend him for this course! (ps: my lecture were bruin-casted for this course)
