I really liked this course! It was so interesting to conduct research "in the field" without having the pressure of conducting an actual research project. Our findings were pretty surprising. Suman is very helpful when answering questions: from structuring our experiment to organizing the data - we could always count on his input. He also seemed to be intrigued by our experiments and findings just as much as we were, which I thought was sweet. Highly recommend taking it as a fun addition to Comm 10!
I was lucky enough to take this class in person! The class was much smaller than I expected. We had two groups, one with 3 members, the other with five. We got to meet Suman once a week as we worked on our respective group projects. My group’s experiment tested people’s helping behavior by dropping fake money on campus! We gathered data, wrote a research paper, and performed an oral presentation at the end of the quarter.
Initially, I was nervous to take the class because there were no reviews, and I did not know anyone in the Communications department. I didn’t know what to expect, so it was a thoroughly present surprise to find fun and friendship through this class! Some of my group members and I even remained friends after the class was over.
I also loved being tasked to apply the concepts from Comm 10 to everyday life on campus. A pleasant experience all around!!
Prof. Suman is incredibly helpful throughout this class, and it's really interesting to learn how to conduct a Communication Studies experiment. I really enjoyed creating and conducting the study alongside my partners. I would highly recommend this class as an accompaniment to COMM10!
Due to the pandemic, this class was pretty different from its usual course. Nonetheless, I worked together with a group to complete the research paper. Suman was very helpful and we met with him every week on zoom to update him on our progress. Was very interesting and I learned a lot. Would highly recommend!
