I took Intro. to Comparative Politics with Professor Lofchie. The outline of the course was very organized, because he separated the course into different sections of French and British political history. He tended to go off on tangents, and since he used powerpoints, he closed the blinds and turned off the lights, so it was extremely hard to stay awake at 9 AM. The grade consisted of a midterm (worth 1/3 of your grade) and the final (worth 2/3). The tests were somewhat fair, but for both the midterm and final, he threw in really specific questions about the history of France and Britain, which weren't really emphasized at all in lecture or in the course overall. I ended up getting an A- even after going into finals with an A because the final was extremely specific. Not a bad teacher, I just thought it was difficult study for.

I found Professor Lofchie to be a very nice man, but his lectures were very scattered and his lecture slides were also unorganized and out of order. He tends to go off on tangents quite a bit, so it's hard to stay focused. The midterm is fair and was not difficult, especially if you look at previous midterms of his. However, I thought his final exam was very unfair. The multiple choice questions were very specific and many of the questions were unlike the types of questions on the midterm. I ended up with a B in the class because of the final, which is worth 66% of your grade. I would recommend taking this class with another professor.

Professor Lofchie's PS50 class is quite easy. If you can get a copy of the old midterms you are pretty much set. However, his lectures can be really difficult to follow and pay attention to. He uses powerpoints, but they are unorganized and hard to follow. Everything is posted online and he really cares about his students. Its not a great class, but if i had to, id take it again.

He cares about his students. He tries to make sure that everyone understands what he is saying, and then relates it to everyday life. His grading is fair. It's not a difficult class. Take him.
