COVID REVIEW
Hands down one of the worst professors I have had here at UCLA. He was completely unresponsive to emails and questions practically the whole quarter, and your grade is based on 5 tests that he makes. Questions would be unclear on what they wanted you to do to the point where no one was certain what he was asking for, and his lack of response overall made this a terrible class.
Really hoping the Accounting department steps in to address this, but I really don't recommend taking any classes with him at least during COVID until these issues are addressed (because he seems very experienced and knowledgeable).
I took this class online due to the pandemic. The class consists of 5 modules (ccle quiz that can be taken for 3-4 days), each representing 20% of your grades. The class was rather easy and I felt the previous response was biased. Some questions were unclear but you can find hints in the exercises/practices whenever in doubt. The professor however takes a really long time to grade our exams so that made me panic for a while.
Professor Williams was above average. He is clear and is able to convey the concepts well. His voice is pretty bland, and his jokes take a few seconds to understand. I had Mess for 32A the quarter before, and Williams was a huge improvement. His exams are fair, though there was a tricky question on the first midterm. He drops the lowest two quizzes and the lower of two midterms. I think he curves a little, since my calculations told me I'd get a B+, and I ended up with an A- (not that I'm complaining), but that may be because the final had a pretty low average.
Williams is pretty good. He speaks in a monotone, so if it's an early morning class, you'll have to get some coffee.
I will say that MATH61 is brutal over the summer session, though. There's a tremendous amount of information crammed into 6 weeks and little time with which to practice exercises in between lectures.
Like I said, WIlliams is a good guy, but summer session is not the optimum time to take this class, IMO.
(I took 32A, not 32AH)
Williams is honestly a pretty average (in a good way) guy. I have no complaints with him; he has no collected homework, weekly quizzes straight from the book (usually easy), and very fair exams for which he gives you lots of practice. He's not the absolute best math professor around, but I'd take him over Chayes (the other usual choice for 32A) any day.
In shot: Not bad; wouldn't mind taking him again.
I took him for 32B, I don't know why it is showing 32BH only, but anyways, if you'd ever take Math 32B with Williams, it would definitely be one your BEST experience in learning lower division math ever. He is pretty chill and super patient with students. He never reads off the notes or throw random questions at students. He definitely knows his stuff, and he arranges the materials from the textbook in a wonderful way that you would actually find all that "scary" materials easy to follow.
He is a funny guy too, although he never intends to be that way I guess... Some of his jokes can be really random and might take you a while to get it, but once you get it, you will realize they are just hilarious.
In general, I highly recommend him :D
He's a really solid professor. He has a very dry voice and sense of humor and his side comments can be hilarious. He presents the material well and is easy to understand, and is good at explaining problems in a step by step manner. Definitely one of the best math professors I've had at UCLA.
His class is pretty standard with 2 midterms and a final, he assigns but doesn't collect homework, and there are once a week quizzes that take two questions straight from the homework (so plan on attending discussion).
I took his 32A and 61. Professor Williams is a good teacher.
He looks quiet but in fact his is approachable and cares much about his students. Usually, has two midterms(one in summer) and quizzes and allow you to drop the lower midterm. The quiz is easy and always the exact same question in his homework. I like his exam questions because they need you to take a while think for a while but never unsolvable. In order to have a decent grade in his course, you need work hard and I nearly did every questions in the book no matter he made it homework or not. The questions in his exam are similar to the questions in the book but not exactly the same.
So, my experience is do as many questions as possible and you should be confidence of yourself. And that is the key to be successful in math isn't it?
Great professor. Really loves what he does and simplifies things in a way that makes the material really easy to understand. He understands what its like to be a student to the point that he drops a midterm if you didn't do well cause everyone has crappy midterm days. He's also really funny. I would definitely say he's the best professor I've had since I've been here.
He gives weekly quizzes in section based off the homework, which means if you already understand the material then you don't really need to do the homework, and he also dropped the two lowest quizzes.
