*Honest review* Professor Blackwell is a quirky, kind professor, during office hours she was very sympathetic toward my situation of being a mom, commuting, and being a transfer student. She genuinely cares for her students, IF you go see her. The workload: 2 Analysis Papers which are only 2 pages, Midterm and Final come with study guides and a 'Zine which you get to do based on a topic of your choice. My issue with this is the lectures are not so exciting because often times they are just being read from the powerpoint so its easy to get distracted. My TA, Dafne, was ABSOLUTELY NO Help at all! she hardly went over the study guides with us before the exam, or going over readings, because she just wasted so much time talking about other things! Not only that but if I had questions I often felt 'dumb' and walked out of there without feeling confident or better because she helped. She graded very harshly. Its not impossible to get an A in this class, just make sure you are ready to work, especially if you get a TA like I did :/

Blackwell is one quirky and knowledgeable woman. The class material is incredible and mind-opening, and I truly feel that this class is amazing for shedding light on topics that the world lacks knowledge about. The workload was tough and heavy for a GE course, which might be a deal-breaker for some. But, I have to say that although there was a lot of work I do not regret taking the class because it opened up my mind to the reality of the current world. If you are looking to learn more about the field and do not mind a few projects and some readings, Blackwell's class will do that for you.

This class was seriously way too much work for a GE. The reading load is very heavy and takes hours. It’s a very high maintenance class and the A doesnt come easy at all. I learned a lot but the workload is a killer.

WHERE DO I START:
LECTURES WERE SO BORING & HER TA'S SUCK ASS. My TA was useless and she spent all of discussion time talking about irrelevant material and cussing 90% of the time. I couldn't even finish the class (reviewing halfway through the quarter) to give her this review. She assigns SO MUCH reading it is NOT healthy. Was I able to do it? Yes, but I almost went CRAZY! Same ideas repeated over the span of like 200 pages. I wanted to shank myself 97% of the time. Most of the things I read were things I already knew and you honestly do not learn anything. PLS DO NOT take this class it is a DEATH TRAP.

The only good things about this class were:
-The guest speakers
-Immigration movie she shows

Just pls look for another GE

This is going to be an HONEST review!

I know that as I was in this class, I hated it so much
just because of all the work we had to do. [It actually wasn't even that much -- all that was a lot was the readings].
So, if you are good with managing your time, take this.
Anyways, I complained a lot because I felt I had a lot of work to do!
But, now that I am out of this class, I feel like i LEARNED so MUCH! Like, I kind of forget things I've learned, but this class I find myself still knowing what we learned.!
This class, I think made me more conscious of everything around me.

The midterm and final study guides can be a bitch, but if you've been reading, you should be fine!
And, everything on the midterm/final study guide is the EXACT same thing, she will not give you tricky stuff.
So just study!
Lecture sucks -- she some what sucks (However, she is very knowledgeable about the material)
what we learned is GREAT!

If you want a lazy class, don't take this.
if you want an easy A, don't do this.
If you want to learn, take this.
If you like to learn about women, inequalities, chicanos, immigrants, etc. take this.
