Haven't finished the final yet. But this class has been great so far. There are several supplementary materials that weren't even in the textbook.
Test and homework are good, both in terms of difficulty and in terms of workload. I would STRONGLY recommend taking math 134 with him
This class was not too difficult in terms of content, especially if you had some background of differential calculus. Professor Wink is very knowledgeable on the subject, however he did not explain the concepts very well if at all. His lectures will have you leaving more confused on the subject than if you never even went... which I stopped doing after week 2. He tried his best in lectures, but he would try to teach conceptually and never plugged numbers in or gave example problems. His homework problems were doable but not comparable to anything you would see on the exams. The two midterms were very difficult and were tough to finish in the time allotted. However, since the averages on the midterms were so bad, he made the final super easy and gave us a nice curve!
Professor Wink explains the materials clearly. There's hw posted once a week and the workload of the hw is kind of heavy but it helps understand the concepts and practice. The first midterm exam is easy, but the second one is a little hard.
Oh, Matthias. This professor did not know how to teach mathematics. He was a very knowledgable man but his lectures were disorganized and rushed and he wrote very small on the board and people could barely see what he was writing. He didn't give us nearly enough resources to practice the material. This being said, it was his very first quarter at UCLA and he was just getting his feet wet. I feel like he tried his best but wasn't prepared to teach this class. Maybe he's improved though. Also, the material on the tests reflected what we went over in class and in the homework most of the time.
Some professors trust their skills so much that they give tough exams and the students score well regardless. However, Dr. Wink believes he must make his class harder than the rest and gives impossible exams that reflect on the average. The class would score about 15% less than any other class as a whole. Avoid this man at all costs!
