Big fan of Bauchy. I came in with a cursory knowledge of materials science but the class was taught clearly enough that I understood just about everything we had to know for the final. The lectures built off of one another, so this is a class that you do not want to skip. In addition, the class size will be generally small so Bauchy will probably notice your absence. Bauchy's lecturing style is highly interactive, where he asks students questions and even follows their wrong answers in order to highlight where the line of thinking went wrong. He also has a very understated sense of humor which makes his lectures very enjoyable. In general you will have very little outside work for this class; during our quarter we had a total of 3 short homework assignments and a final exam, and the graduate students in the class also had to contribute to a relevant Wikipedia article. Final was very fair and required a decent understanding of the course material. Stay engaged with the professor and you'll do fine.

Professor Bauchy is very patient and nice. You can understand everything clearly as long as you pay attention on class!
