Prof. Yeager was great! This particular class was very easy, because much of the assignments consumed much of the final grade. However, it seems as though she changed this the next quarter. She cares a lot about the student as individual, and is really engaged as an economic historian. I think her training is in twentieth-century economic history, but she does a very good job of explaining the kinks of early-American economics. You don't need an economics background, but it helps. The midterm and final was easy, especially considering she gave you everything you needed. Do all the reading, attend all the classes, and you will do well.
Professor Yeager is outstanding. She is passionate about teaching, kind, and extremely approachable. I went to her several times for help, and she was more than willing to spend time talking to me. She offered a review session for her final during her own time on a Friday night because several students said they were having a tough time with the material. Not many professors do that. Please disregard anything negative about Yeager. Her lectures are great, work load completely doable, and she is super sweet and knowledgeable.
Professor Yeager was a decent professor, but lacked any communication skills. She never sent out her study guides on time or told the class due dates (and I attended every single lecture for the entire time). Her lectures were a very hit or miss affair, often the later. I took this class to get a fresh perspective on American history and was disappointed. Professor Yeager is extremely knowledgeable, and for that reason I would recommend the class for those interested in economic history, but on the whole I would not recommend this class.
Professor Yeager is probably the worst professor I’ve had a UCLA. She is basically the history professor equivalent of a crazy cat lady. Her lectures are long ramblings of whatever she comes up with off the top of her head, and she consistently throws out incorrect facts. The class feels like a middle school one. There is an extra-credit scrapbooking project, an extra-credit rap song assignment, and a paper on the history of your family. Don’t take the class if you are looking for a course you can stand sitting through or want to learn something.
