Professor Goorksy is probably one of the more reliable lecturers in terms of clarity, although he can get a bit monotonous. The class itself is really not that great in my opinion, because between MSE120/EE2, MSE121, and EE121B, you will pretty much be covering roughly the same curriculum multiple times, so it's really hard to care by the time you get around to this class.

It's not that hard of a class as long as you spend a bit of time looking at the textbook for formulas, which also isn't too bad as far as textbooks go. I only changed this class to P/NP because my other classes were hitting me pretty hard and I didn't get to put as much work into this class as I had planned.

Long story short: good professor, kinda boring class because it's the same stuff as other electronics classes, just read the textbook and look at the slides and you'll probably be ok

I feel like this class is a bit overrated in the MSE department, but it is still a very solid elective. The midterm is similar to previous years, so just make a few MSE upperclassmen friends and it should be a cakewalk.

Finals weeks was extremely stressful though splitting time between a long term paper, a surprise take home final, and the actual final. I ended up not studying for the final because I was so burned out from doing the take home and term paper alongside my other classes. Goorsky is one of the better MSE professors, but I think that even he can get really boring and monotonous. Taking EE2 or MSE120 before this class makes the subjects pretty redundant even though they provide the actual fundamentals behind the concepts in MSE 122. I only recommend this class because the other MSE electives are much worse (other than MSE 111).

Excellent professor. I heard he won a best teacher award...I'm not surprised. Dr. Goorsky gives engaging lectures and his exams contain very insightful questions that tests the most crucial key concepts. I walked away very inspired, so inspired I left my old research interest to pursue semiconductor research. Silicon and GaAs are so cool!
