Took Intro Sociology with Professor J. He's a nice and funny guy, and he tends to go on a lot of entertaining tangents, so lectures aren't too intensive(nice given the 8am time). He also encourages student participation in lectures for you vocal types.
The writings are very simple; 5 one-page double-spaced essays - 2 reading summaries, 2 current events that relate to the readings, and 1 on how a sociological concept relates to your life.
The midterm and final both consist of roughly 50-60 multiple choice questions and 2 one-page essays among 7 topics. Midterm is a cakewalk if you do the readings (which I neglected) and visit the testbank (see neglect), and the final only covers the other half of the readings, but is not in the testbank. Jepson gives thorough study guides for both tests the week before, so do the weekly readings and don't fall behind like dumbass me. With regards to TAs, Fox is highly knowledgeable and very helpful. Overall, easy GE course, just do the readings.

FOR SOC 1:
People really recommend this class, so I took it, but I was disappointed. While Professor Jepson can be funny at times, his jokes are often very cliched. He rambles a lot and loves to talk about how crazy our generation is or how fun his college days were or whatever; basically, he rambles often about things unrelated to the course and the readings. I just stopped going to lecture, because it was at 8am and I found no use in his lectures. Just read the readings, and keep up with them, and you'll be fine without lecture. While the professor is nice and funny himself, he's not very good at teaching. He's approachable during office hours but it's the same during office hours: you ask him a question and he'll sort of evade it and ramble on about something else. The readings are okay, most are pretty understandable. Professor Jepson is kind enough to send out a very comprehensive study guide before the midterm and final. Both are worth 70 points, 140 total for the exams, and out of 180 points for the class total. 10 points are section attendance, and 30 points are the 5 1-page essays. The 1 page essays are: 2 reading abstracts, 2 current event analyses, and 1 sociological imagination paper- these should be simple enough, just keep up with them! The class is graded a little tough, the exams are pretty simple: 50 MC and 2 1-page short essays. In the end, the grades are curved toward your TA's discussions, not everyone in the class. Overall, I would recommend the class, as long as you can keep up with the readings/ essays, which should be easy enough.
