Professor Jepson's class is quite engaging for an Intro to Sociology Course. The professor usually lectures for half the class and then either shows a movie or allows the class to participate in discussion. Almost all of the lectures revolve around the readings from the Course Reader so they are very easy to follow.

However, be careful about the grading system since it is not as it appears. The class is divided up into 110 total points: 10 points for attending discussions (one for each), 20 points for four papers, 40 points for the midterm, and 40 points for the final. Professor Jepson states early in the class that the course will be curved upwards to the students' favor. However, this is not the case. My TA graded extremely hard on the midterm and the Professor told us not to worry or argue over the points since he would probably curve a 34 out of 40 to be an A-. Yet, at the end of the quarter, I ended up with a 91% in the class but received a solid B in the course since he decided to put the class on a Bell-Curve without notifying the students. Students who performed with a mid B or lower on the midterm could not attain even an A- in the class. Therefore, while the class may seem easy, keep it as a top priority and make sure you study hard since you are competing with the other students in the course.

I recommend Professor Jepson for Sociology 1 as long as you ensure that you're grade is near the top of the class throughout the entire quarter.

Great class and awesome professor.
The assigned readings are excellent. Prof. Jepson is gem for the Sociology Dept and what I like most is his politics

Class is very straightforward, a great GE very enjoyable!!! This was one of the few classes where i went to almost every lecture. Lectures were very interesting and engaging, and easy to take notes. The final and midterm were fairly easy, but it all depends on the TA...everything is graded by the TA and TA discussion sections were pretty dry and pointless, but nonetheless mandatory.
