Professor Quinlan was a very straightforward teacher and her notes were well organized and posted clearly on CCLE. Her tests followed the materials she gave out in class really closely, and the quizzes/problem sets were a good reflection of what was expected. This class required a lot of self-learning however, as lectures were not really that useful. I only went to get clicker points because the material covered in lecture was REALLY slow. She put a lot of emphasis on participation and so a lot of students would ask questions they already knew the answer to in order to get points, which slowed down our learning pace. We were still on Week 5 material around Week 7 which caused her to speed up near the end and the material got a bit confusing to me. She also writes using her iPad which is then projected onto the screen, and although this isn't her fault, her writing was extremely hard to read anywhere past the 5th-ish row of the lecture hall. Regardless of all that, it's pretty simple to do well in this class as long as you study the material provided and do a LOT of practice questions!

Professor Quinlan tries her best to accommodate students and make sure that they are understanding the material that she is teaching. However, we did not get through all of the material we were supposed to learn for 14B, which is unfortunate. Her midterm was extremely straightforward and the final exam was also easier than other chem classes such as Lavelle. The exams consisted of multiple choice and problem solving free response. She thoroughly summarizes her lectures from the previous class at the beginning of every class. The clicker questions count for correctness not completeness though, so that is something to watch out for! Overall, I can say that her exams were fair and all of the materials were provided to us in order to prepare for the final.

I'm really glad I waited to take this class with Quinlan rather than Scerri or Lavelle. There were a lot of different ways to get points in the class (online homework, written homework, quizzes, participation, midterm, final, etc.) so no one thing was worth too much. Her tests were extremely fair if you did the homework and listened in lecture, and what's more, I actually feel like I learned something. I would 100% take this class again, Professor Quinlan is so helpful during office hours and is all around great at explaining concepts.

I'm going to be completely honest, so far half way into the quarter, Quinlan has been unorganized and unclear. This really showed when she gave out a half baked confusing quiz with contradicting information that tripped up most if not all of the class.

If you're debating between taking Scerri or Quinlan for 14B, take Quinlan!! A lot of people were debating between the two last quarter because Quinlan is fairly new and because the first clicker of each class is graded on accuracy, but she is super flexible/understanding and teaches well. Her exams were really easy this quarter (pretty much exactly like the problem sets we get each week) and the clicker thing didn't even end up being that big of a deal. I had Scerri for 14A last quarter and I can say that Quinlan goes more in depth with the material and explains the concepts better. The one drawback is that she confuses herself during lectures often. I also saw a previous review talking about how she gave a confusing and contradictory quiz, which did happen, but she ended up dropping the grade for that quiz and hosting a review session to go over it. Overall, would definitely recommend to take her!

Dr. Quinlan is an awesome professor! She really listens to her students and really goes out of her way to help. We are given a problem set every week and have a week to complete it. 80% of it is just completion and 20% is based on the accuracy of a random graded problem. Her exams are very fair and closely follow the concepts that we learn in class. Reviewing the slides, problem sets and quizzes was enough for me for the exams. She was very flexible and really supportive of the class. I highly recommend her class.

Take this class with Quinlan! There are a lot of categories that go into the grade and her lectures and explanations are really good and helpful! You do have to go to almost every lecture because she has clicker questions (Zoom polls since it was online) but you don't need all the points to get 100% for that category. Every week there's a problem set (not all are graded) and homework from Sapling. We had 5 quizzes and they weren't very difficult. Another review talked about how one of them was messed up but Quinlan ended up canceling it and replaced the score with the average of the other quizzes plus 5 points. The midterm wasn't bad and it was kind of easy, there's an individual part and a group part. I thought the final was much more difficult but then again I slacked off at the end of the quarter. If you study you'll likely do well. We also had peer review homeworks which I didn't like. Overall I think Quinlan is a great professor especially if you struggle with chem and the class structure is also great!

Margot is just super clear about everything. If you look back at all the material she taught about in lecture, you could see how structured her stuff is. Weekly problem sets help a lot and the TAs are super helpful as well. Margot also brought in real life discoveries and actual papers to apply the theory to let us see the big picture. Great experience overall and I really learned a lot from this class.

Professor Margot was a great professor, although sometimes her explanations were confusing at times. This class was pretty challenging for me, not gonna lie. The structure of the class is clicker quizzes, clicker participation points, homework, 2 midterm and a final.

The way the class is set up is that at the beginning of class, Margot will have a clicker quiz. There are 20 total quizzes, but you only need to get the answer correct for 10 of them to get full points on quizzes. Throughout her presentation, there will be various clicker participation opportunities. In addition, participation is accounted from attending discussion, in which you need to sign in. Discussions basically go over a couple of problems that are assigned on the homework. If you do well on the quizzes, homework and get all participation points, then you have enough points which equate to one midterm.

Margot structures the class in which she goes off a straight scale. She will not curve the class, but she may bring the scale down, so there is an opportunity for many people to get A's. I ended up with an A in the course, but to be honest, I was surprised. I did very poorly on both midterms. I got D's on both midterms and for both midterms, I was below the average. The first midterm I was about 10 points below the average and for the second midterm, I was 4-5 points below the average. Even before taking the final, I calculated that I needed to get a B on the final just to get a C+ in the class. But I guess I did pretty well on the final and also Margot may have shifted the grading scale down, so I was able to get an A in the course. So I hope my case gives hope to some people and just study hard for each midterm so that you wont have to study extra hard on the final to pass the class. You can do it!
