10/10 english class. So each engcomp 3 class focuses on a different topic, and Peggy's is about pop culture and teenagers and stuff. So all the work in the class lowkey didn't feel like work at all. For example, we would read articles about popular films or listen to short podcasts about nostalgia, so it was really easy.

Homework-wise, there were mainly 3 components
1) you have to read a couple of articles before each class
2) you have to write a one-page journal for each class on basically any topic
3) you have to write 3 essays that are each ~5 pages give or take (but you turn in 2 at the end of the quarter). this quarters topics were: quarantine reflection, definition of a word/phrase in contemporary culture, and cultural analysis of a source.

My advice for this class is
-do the hw an hour before class so its fresh in your memory
-dont fall behind on the journals
-be an active participator
-edit your final drafts diligently

Peggy overall is super cheery and it really sucks that we couldn't have this class in person. She gives a lot of support and is super willing to help in any way possible. As a person who didn't do so hot in high school English, this class was certainly a good experience. If you put in a good amount of effort, you should be able to get an A.

I really enjoyed this class. The workload was pretty easy. The professor is really helpful. Would recommend this.

If you have to take this class, TAKE IT WITH DAVIS aka Peggy!! She is funny, helpful, and her class is almost always enjoyable. For the most part, each class consists of a student led discussion, and the topics are interesting! Participation is a big part of your grade so if you're not a big talker then you may want to stay away. The topics focus on pop culture so you get to read and write about current things. You only have to write 3 essays in the entire quarter and she will meet with you individually and help you the whole way. As far as the prompts go, she leaves a lot of room for creativity and you can write about virtually anything you want. She teaches you how to write in more human way versus the academic writing we've all grown up with. This class will help you find your writing voice which in turn will make writing a more enjoyable experience. The workload throughout the week is very light. You just have to read a couple short articles that are almost always interesting and controversial. These readings are mandatory as they guide the class discussion for the week. But it's worth it because the discussions end up being interesting and thought provoking. I was not looking forward to taking ENGCOMP 3 but I enjoyed Peggy's class very much! Take this class and you won't regret it.

Professor Davis goes by Peggy and is super cool. At first I thought she was kind of annoying because her teaching style is VERY animated and she makes a lot of funny voices and reminds me of a cartoon character but when you get used to it its entertaining. She really cares about helping her students grow as writers and she focuses on what matters as far grading rather than trying to screw people over. The class was a very informal discussion where we talked about different short articles we read from the course reader pretty much the whole time. There were 3 assigned papers that were straightforward and graded fairly, and a journal assignment for the whole quarter that could be checked randomly. If you have to take engcomp 3, take it with Peggy. She rocks.

Peggy is the first professor who makes me want to write a evaluation for her. Her personality is so nice that you want to keep in touch with her even after the class. She is humorous in class. She is more like a friend instead of a strict professor. Definitely should choose her for your EC3 class!!!!!

Oh Peggy. Cussing and all; she is awesome. There's no way of getting around it. Super great personality that makes you and your classmates feel as though you are back in high school just hanging out. Makes everyone feel comfortable, which you will have to be because this definitely doubles as a discussion class just as much as the writing. Maybe it was just me, coming from a very strict English writing background, but I had trouble trying to make the switch into an opinionated and creative writing approach. Great class, really. Got a B+.

Professor Davis (Peggy) is definitely one of the best English professors in UCLA. She truly cares about students and is more than willing to spend extra time with anyone who needs help.
The readings are short and interesting, and the classes are interactive and very very fun.
As a south campus major, English was always my least favorite subject.
But she is the kind of teacher that will make you enjoy writing essays and look forward to every one of the lectures.
If I have a chance, I will definitely take her class again.

Wow, where do I start? Peggy was the most awesome, relevant, concerned and effective professor I've ever had at UCLA. Honestly I wasn't expecting much out of this class, and taking it during summer made me go into it not wanting to be there more than anything. After the first two classes, I actually started looking forward to summer school. Peggy brings in relevant topics and articles and lets us have fun while analyzing writing and learning what we can do to make our papers better. Engcomp 3 consisted of three essays, and for each one we had the opportunity to not only get her feedback, but we did an in-class peer review so you can get feedback on your paper from two classmates as well. She is lenient with what you choose to write about, within reason, which makes it a lot more enjoyable to write. She also lets you write conversationally, and doesn't insist that you follow stupid rules like not being able to use contractions or 2nd-person references.

Peggy is amazing and I just hope I get to take another one of her classes again.

I took this as one of my first classes at UCLA and I don't think I could find a professor that cares more about her students than Peggy does. She engages students and helps you create amazing writing skills in just a quarter.

She is super nice and actually cares about her students. If you reach out for help, she will do whatever she can to help you succeed.
